Re: Drop Bears

GMV as always. I do agree with the statement that it should be re-subed in a different color. Most people don't respond well with yellow due to it being a hard color to match with other things and you needing a certain skin tone to make it look good. I like the image on yellow, but with fall coming in it isn't the best color to work with during the season. Just some CC. ^^' I will buy it no matter what color it prints on. hehe

Only one octopus. And octopi is an incorrect pluralization. Octo = greek, pi = latin. -podes (greek) or -es (english) suffixes are technically correct. However, everyone knows what you mean.

Also, I love the shape of the jelly fish. Now i REALLY want to buy one just so I can see if other people notice. Or it will just be my little secret.

Cmon, kookaburras and koalas are not the ONLY Australians animals.

BTW, you've spelled kookaburra wrong about 3-4 times by now.

Re: Kookaburra In The Old Gum Tree v2.0

While the creme was a better color for the composition, it's a tough sell shirt-wise, so good idea on the resub. I like your brushwork on this, it looks "painterly". As mentioned in the other thread, the bird looks a bit mean, and the shape of the belly doesn't look natural to me. I prefer the look of the puffed belly.

Damn, he does look pissed doesn't he?

honestly rasabi, why are you here? please submit more designs to the dailies for a better chance at printing. The derbies are no place for your work.

What is *really* going on here is that they are ALL going after the poor, defenseless crocodile. But he just greets them with a toothy smile and hopes for the best.

I'm not the one you're asking, but I'm in the same boat. I don't know the reference, and I think it's hilarious.

I find it funny because: it suggests that Australians are badass, and furthermore, I'm pretty sure this is the kind of thing you would need to survive in the wild out there.

That's my interpretation, anyways.. "No pop culture references" is a really vague requirement, and I don't feel that the heart behind this design is violating the purpose of the rule.

This is an absolutely stunning shirt, and a definite buy if it wins. That being said, I wish the machinery were a little more prominent. I feel like the environmental warning/message inherent in the shirt will get lost because people will just see a pretty design.

G'day mates.

Is your shirt meant to be a salute to Australian airline Qantas?

Re: to the sun

@J5 - Haha. Always glad to hear that kind of reaction...

Doing the derbies and wiring myself to produce at least one new design a week really helped me get back into illustrating. That isn't to say that I don't sub work elsewhere (with a half dozen unaccepted daily subs thrown into the mix), but I tend to work better with a little guidance and a deadline. Getting as much stuff out as I can and hearing as much feedback on said stuffs is probably the best strategy for me for at least a while longer :P

@rowanmikaio - I added the lines of color in the machinery pretty late in the process to increase its presence. Now that you mention it, though, I wish I'd thought to experiment with it a bit more. Thickening the lines a bit would have probably helped, though I remember having to also worry about the lines blending into the surrounding halftones too much...

Wow, I really need this shirt!
The koala happily munching in the guy's leg - fantastic! :D

If it was, as already pointed out, in another color, I would even love it more.

I'm Aussie, and I sure hope that this doesn't get far.

We've had horrible flooding.
We've had fires, that have destroyed homes and families.

And sushi? If that's a racist joke towards the amount of asian influence we have..

Plain and simple, overall, bad judgement in this.

Re: Drop Bears

Thanks for the support thus far and I hear you on the yellow. This was on grass initially, before I ran out of ink colors and had to switch. There aren't tooooo many options here. In terms of ink colors, black, white, and red all stay. Peachy skin color stays too, unfortunately, because otherwise the tourists look ill. Gives me two colors to work with plus whatever the shirt color is. I'm open to suggestions.

This was the result of tinkering with grass: http://fablefire.com/dropbearsgrass.png
