Almost...

Words (like "sub" and "bus") that when spelled backwards form another word are called anadromes (or semodnilaps - palindrome spelled backwards) or anadrome pairs (or heteropalindromes).

Palindromes (like "level") are the same word or phrase when spelled forward or backward.

I think I rode the bus with that squid for a while...in its past life, and I'm positive I recognize the diver. He is the one who gave me some pepper spray because he felt scared for meto (lived in a scary neighborhood) and I was the first person brave enough to talk to him.

I'd say the word "sub" and "bus" are very simple anagrams instead....

Or am I missing the joke here?

It's not a Palindrome, It's a Pun.

The diver doesn't have an airhose either. So I think we may be expected to use a little suspension of disbelief (and perhaps humor) about Mr Cement Shoe's chance of survival until the suB arrives.

Mr. Concrete Boots has just arrived. I figure Mr. Diver will share his air (from whatever apparatus he has hidden away) until the sub arrives. From Mr. Diver's posture it can't be long now, right?

THIS took third place? Seriously? There were so many gorgeous designs in the underwater derby. This illustration to me reminds me of Sponge Bob...just wow. #disappointed

Let's get this straight, the octopus is using an Ipod, a Kindle, and a Blackberry?

Poor guy, if only he splurged for the Ipad2,he would only be carrying around one device, and the 6 arms would be free!

Also:

Let's hope the suB comes soon, because that Diver has been waiting since at least the early 1930's.

What's between the diver and the cephalopod? A crab feeling crabby?

is there a VU reference in it? if so, it goes over my head. are you refering to "I'm Waiting for the Man", perhaps?

The description is a parody of "I'm Waiting for the Man" by The Velvet Underground. One of my favorite songs! I'm listening to it right now and singing these lyrics.

Right idea, wrong term. "suB" is just the reverse of "Bus." A palindrome is a term or even phrase that reads exactly the same backward as forward:

- racecar
- eye
- never odd or even

I'm confused as to why a couple people have said that they'll wait until it goes to the reckoning before they buy it, since the price goes up then...

I wonder why the shark was chosen to play the role of wheelchair-bound beggar. I mean, it's as if to suggest something more sinister is going on. Is the shark not really handicapped? Can he swim away as soon as Aquaman shows up?

The artist gets a flat rate for today, they get a per shirt value after that ($2.00/shirt I believe?). So waiting till after today to buy helps out the artist.

If you buy it from the reckoning, you're helping the artist make more money. They get a flat rate for the shirt of the day, but after that, they make money for each shirt that sells. That's probably one reason. Maybe some people don't get paid until later? I get paid on Mondays so maybe that's another reason.

As others have said, it's so the artist gets a cut of it too.

I don't look at these with a $15 price tag ... I look at them with a $13 price tag (net amount to Woot) and a $2 tip going directly to the artist. So in essence, we're only comparing $12 versus $13.

You are right that Sub is bus backwards, but it is not a palindrome. A palindrome is the same both was. i.e. radar, madam, saippuakivikauppias, etc.
