I agree. It seems to be a typical woot shirt and it should blend in real well with the other offerings but I think it was the timing of the whole thing. I know it's not a Christmas shirt but it would have sold a ton more had it been offered pre-Christmas with "ugly sweater" and the like.

The Derby is a "popularity contest" - sometimes a design wins the derby and then has lackluster sales because it got a lot of votes from wooters who either can't afford to buy or never intended to buy or whatever; it gives wooters a chance to have a say on what gets printed (as long as they've wooted at least once) whether it makes money for Woot or not. I, for one, absolutely love shirt.woot's model and the reckoning in particular. I've lost count of the number of times I've given the site rave reviews to friends, family, and passersby (even if explaining shirt.woot to the uninformed feels like describing color to a blind person sometimes)

It's exciting to watch it unfold, even if a shirt I like gets the ax or one I don't doesn't. If I like a shirt I buy it! If I sort of like it I wait until it's about to be reckoned and then I'll find out in that moment of truth if I "sort of" liked it a lot or just sort of "sort of" liked it.

I know it's hard to see some shirts come and some go, but that's just the nature of the reckoning. She who must not be named is gone, so all in all the reckoning is what it is.

Is slate really the closest to heather grey? I think of heather as being a very light grey, like silver. I don't own any heather grey woot shirts* though, so I don't really know what the AA heather looks like. Maybe what I'm thinking of is closer to what's sometimes called "ash grey".

*If anyone has an extra "Books - No Electricity Required" they'd be willing to sell me to fill in that gap, please let me know!

Yeah, Congrats! I really like the shirt but I haven't bought it because I am not a tech person at all, much less a code monkey... but when it looked like it was in danger I decided that I liked it enough that it didn't matter that I don't have a clue how to do a reinstall Now I can hold off until it's in danger again -

As of noon today only 3 shirts have have worse sales this week that Vampires. Right now my numbers show Vampires finishing this week at #20.

So even determining if someone is buying their own shirts under thier own name can take some dedication since the stats only show the last wooter to woot. Basically it requires frequent refreshing of the stats for the shirt that you are tracking for the period in question. I admit to having done it once or twice in the hour or so before a Reckoning on a shirt that had apparently miraculous last-second saves a few weeks in a row... I didn't learn anything exciting from the experience.

The period in question would typically be the last few minutes of the reckoning, as that is when all the fun happens. For soon-to-be reckoned shirts, the sales don't update all that often, so tracking is easier. I haven't done it purposefully, only incidentally.

I do lots of geeky stuff -- coding, sysadmin work, network admin work, a little website scripting, hardware building/support -- but I'm not big on that shirt. It's a good idea, but the references are off.

In most places I've worked "Refresh, Reboot, Reinstall" is used derisively to describe the methodology of poorly-skilled support staff. Linux, pizza, Free Toes, and Mountain Dude invoke the idea of hardcore hackers/coders, but most of those folks look down on HTML coding (prominent in the design) as kindergarten stuff.

To me the shirt is the sort of thing non-geeky people think is clever because it refers to stuff they vaguely recognize as being computer-related, so they buy it for their geeky friend and then wonder why the geeky friend never wears it.

Or maybe I'm overthinking this one. ;^)

There are currently 7 shirts with less than 900 sales on this list. I confess to not being a vigilent follower of the numbers so I ask you, is this normal, are the shirts poor designs or are people following through with their threatened boycott of $12 shirts?

I want to say this is normal post-holiday drop-off, but sales seem really sluggish this week. The rankings haven't budged since Tuesday to any notable degree. Of course, the past two weeks witnessed battle royales in the Reckoning, so maybe this week is just an outlier. We don't have Narf's wonderful data from a year ago to compare, sadly, simply because he didn't start tracking all of this until later in the year.

okay, so this may make me sound like a total Skippy Squirrel, but can someone explain Narfcake's breakdown for me? i don't understand what the numbers mean, and how they're used in figuring out which shirts are being reckoned. i'd like to know more about the process. thanks in advance.

Personally, I really haven't liked that many shirts being offered as the daily (including derby shirts) recently. Last daily I purchased was on January 2. Deep Sea Reader, Shhhhhh, and Housewarming Gifts are really the only ones I seriously considered since then. So, it doesn't really have anything to do with the price increase for me.

From the FAQ.

The (+__) numbers are the number of sales that have occurred since the baseline for this week's reckoning.

The Daily Sales Rate is then calculated from those numbers, of which there are two because Woot bases the ranking with future-based accounting. The "real time" just accounts for the days that have elapsed.

If all that was still too confusing, then Darquis has the answer.
