I feel the same way, I would love to see it in another color!

bellisperennis wrote:What about putting it on a white shirt instead, and fading the edges of the drawing a bit (to make a soft edge)? Not that white shirts get much love around here, but would it work better as a shirt that way?
Had thought about that, but realized that, as you pointed out, white shirts are not very popular around here, although you're definitely right that a faded border would be a great way to make it look better, as it would suggest a larger image than the print area.
gregjxh wrote:I like this one. I'm new here too, and found a lot of great resources on the boards, including tips on shirt composition. http://shirt.woot.com/Forums/ViewForum.aspx?ForumID=39 Also, check out the panda/polar bear entry in this derby for a similar idea that was pretty well executed.
Thanks. Will definitely check out the boards.... much easier than trying to do everything through trial and error.
jfsiv wrote:Vary cool I like how you fused the sharks and bat to make it look natural.
Thanks. To quote Kurtz from "Apocalypse Now", "It is my dream. It is my nightmare."
emberdione wrote:This was my problem... it's nearly exactly the same.
I missed out on that one, so would LOVE for this one to be printed, and it's even better as there are more pandas on this one!
Re: Family Portrait
Should have had the dog sitting outside the portrait.
Re: Traffic Detail
I dont understand how this doesn't have more votes... And the designs that are beating this are SOOOO warm and fuzzy and boring. Just a bunch of "cute" crap. Hope this one makes it!
Re: Balloon Disgust
hahaha I saw the rejection coming, but very funny design.
Re: Goes on Everything?
Hey chocolate cake and ketchup isn't so bad my great grandpa put ketchup in everything. Even in his milk during breakfast. Now thats just wrong.

HA! I love it! Nice work!
I will take the color into account and probably try the image again with a different color scheme
ramyb wrote:First of all, interesting that you'd define this as "cute," but ok fine I won't argue that point. But the "just like every time" is what gets me. I have had one other design that could possibly be defined as "cutesy" since the start of this year, which ended in 16th place. So far this year, I've had two designs that printed, one of which was a watercolor tree and the other an abstract representation of inspiration the mind. Perhaps you check the derby an average of once every few months and have just gotten unlucky, but I have been working hard to have a great deal of variety in my designs recently, both in content and style. And don't worry, (spoiler alert!) this design is not going to print anyway so you can breathe a little easier. Anyway, thanks everyone else for the kind words, I'm glad to help with the halftone stuff and might put together a formal tutorial for different halftoning techniques that I have amassed over the years
First, I for one have enjoyed seeing you branch out and work different themes other than 'cute'. You definitely have been strengthening your craft. And second, thanks tons for the discussion on halftones. I'd love to see you post a tutorial in one of the community threads. It'd be a terrific help to a lot of us amateurs, and maybe some pros, too. And third, WANT TO HUG!? This is fogging; what makes you think it won't print? Neither the style nor the subject matter are my thing, and I won't even opine on the 'on-topic-ness'. But I see lots of votes going to it. Just curious why you don't see it printing. Spoiler?
dmaz wrote:I love obscure shirts like this +1!
Thanks! I thought it was silly enough to do well.
ganome wrote:nice art but... seems off topic to me
As mentioned above, there's not a whole lot of topic to be 'on'. Worst. Theme. Evar. IMHO, and too close to recent themes. >sigh< Half or more of the subs I've looked at, I've had to think, 'how is this on topic?' I shouldn't have to. The Watercolor derby was awesome, and a great break from what seemed to be 'reaching' on Woot's part - like they're running out of ideas. Annnnnnd, now back to the same old.
Frankly, ketchup on a hot dog grosses me out more than on chocolate cake. ewwww! This made me think of my late MiL's tomato soup cake and chocolate mayonnaise cake, though. Good times.

amandanielsen wrote:In real life, I don't think anyone will be staring at my chest long enough to get it (at least I hope not.) It'll just be an owl shirt. I'd like it if it were more obvious.
Good point! You've changed my mind, make the cat more obvious, please!
Re: It's not easy being green
His expression says it all! Nice one!
Re: square peg
This reminds me of Homer Simpson trying to put together a puzzle. Very cute design!
Re: Infinitely out of place...
..much thanks to those who voted! (and to those who didn't as well..at least they're honest...lol)
This is refreshing. I love your style. AND it actually fits this week's theme. I promise to buy if it prints and look forward to seeing more of your work.
Re: Balloon fish
Nice concept, reminds me of this designer
I really like the frogs, but the cross layout turns me off. :/
Re: True Colors
REALLY like this shirt...wish it were ranking in the fog!!! Maybe it will rally, I'd buy several!
voted... robocop is awesome no matter what.
Like this! Would totally buy one for my husband if it made it.

Re: Sushi Friends
Love this!
Awkward Turtle is a hand gesture that you do when situations are awkward, people did it all the time my freshman year of college. You put your hands on top of one another and move your thumbs in circular motions like a turtle does when they swim (usually not synchronized with each other since this is an awkward turtle). I tried to make it look a little bit like a super hero logo so that it would look good on a shirt, hence, Super Awkward Turtle Man.
Re: Hanging Out
This made me laugh so hard, I almost spit out my coffee. I love it!
it's a goat... la mancha to be exact. Goats are all about ears... stickie out ones, long dangly ones..or none, or close to none
Mavyn wrote:I really like the frogs, but the cross layout turns me off. :/
I agree; I like the idea. What about a horizontal layout? (e.g. frog, frog, kermit, frog)
Thanks everyone!
Re: We're not in Kentucky
Bit of a design study. Playing with Inkscape and halftones.
Hahaha I love it. It's going to be rejected for not being on a shirt template thought. You should slap it on one and put it back up.
