I've purchased 123 shirts on AA blanks and zero on Anvil.
That's my wallet talking.

I wasn't going to stay up. Drat! Foiled again!

Travel in style! Travel in a Woot shirt!

I'm curious if anyone else has not experienced the issues with the neck size/shape and flaring out at the bottom that have been mentioned in regards to the Anvil blanks. It does seem like the majority of those commenting on the shirts have experienced one of those issues, but I was wondering if there were any other folks like me who have been fortunate enough to not have that problem. Granted, this is in exchange for a shirt that is pilling way too much for being worn 2-3 times.

I'm just still trying to figure out how so many wooters can have trouble with the blanks and how they fit, but somehow the woot staff was apparently lucky enough when they were testing to get the blanks that didn't have an awkward shape to them.

Edit - meant in regards to the women's sizes, though that doesn't mean only ladies should chime in the issue of how the new blanks are fitting, losing their shape.

Woot sent me samples when they started this and they looked, felt, and fit good (but big) before washing. After washing, softness decreased markedly, and shirt looked a bit more disheveled than a comparative AA shirt would. After wearing it for several hours, I could fit an extra head in the neck hole.

So I'm guessing Woot did their testing without a washing machine or maybe some very controlled careful washing. I've always done a full hot wash / hot dry with my AA's and they looked great.

I bought the Leonardo shirt unbeknownst to me it was the Anvil. I did my routine: washed it and dried and wore it out. First thing I noticed was the neck was wayy too big. Second thing I noticed is the bottom was way too big. Wasn't snug around my waist. Third thing I noticed is the arms were bigger and finally it felt stiff, heavy and like cardboard. That's when I looked at the tag and saw it was from Honduras. Did some googling and came across this thread. I'm completely flabbergasted that an Amazon company would make such an erroneous decision. I know it'll take a lot not to buy such great designs, but it's worth not paying for a company to sellout. I hope some of the artists do something.

I had this same problem with my only Anvil shirt, but not quite as bad. I posted about it somewhere.

Well, if you are talking about men's sizes, there is less of a problem with those, and the sizes are (I'm told) not too different from the AA men's shirts. It is the women's Anvil shirts that are cut with a flare at the bottom and run about two sizes larger than AA.

Sorry I didn't make that clear, I was referring to the women's sizes. I apparently got the one blank that didn't turn into an unwearable mess. It's skewed my opinion on things a bit. Just wondering how things have gone so terribly wrong for some, but not others (mostly meant in regards to the woot staff seeming to not notice this issue with the women's sizes).

I think there are quite a few of use that haven't worn our Anvil's more than the first time, so we aren't reporting problems due to their durability.

I have been an active woot buyer for the past two years. I LOVED how the AA shirts fit. As a busty but petite girl the AA shirts fit in all the right places. I had some hope that the new Woot shirts would at least fit me better since the change was partially advertised so that the woman's sizes fit more true to a woman's figure. I am sadly disapointed. I purchased a shirt recently that according to the woot measurment chart should fit me true to form. According to this t-shirt my boobs are too big and my hips are too small. There is way to much room as the shirt goes past my chest. This has resulted in me switching to a men's small. It fits me better in the chest and at least doesn't look rediculous. I think you defeated your purpose in the change. What girl wants to buy a woman's t shirt that makes them look horrible?

I would have bought the shirt of the day for my daughter who loves both Monkeys and Zelda, but then woot betrayed this community and all Americans so I didn't....WOOT BTW people (especially the ladies), how are all those ill fitted and unraveling shirts treating you? The nice thing to know is if you buy for your child here another kid in Bangladesh gets paid a half cup of rice as a days labor to make it, and 300 others....WOOT.

anyone know who makes the organic t-shirts? place of origin is not us or honduras--it's nicaragua. I'm assuming it's not AA, but is it Anvil, is it someone else? Does anyone know anything about the fit, quality and feel of these t-shirts? I'm talking about the organic ones, not the recycled ones.

The recycled ones I know are anvil--I assume they aren't any different then regular anvil tees, unless anyone knows from experience and can weigh in.

Thanks

The organic shirts are Anvil; after the original announcement was made, it turned out that Anvil shirts are made in both Honduras and Nicaragua.

They're all Anvil.

Organic = Anvil 490 or 498
Organic long sleeve = Anvil 429
Recycled = Anvil 520

Except for passing them on thrift shop racks, I don't have any personal experience.

I really love all the shirts in this week's derby. What are the chances that any will print on AA? Are there still large unused stocks of AA blanks in some colors? I would really like to pick up one or more of these and don't want anvil.

Size issues aside, it seems as if they don't hold up well in the wash...

I'm pretty much the same... checked out this derby's shirts and there're some designs I would love, but not enough to buy on a shirt that won't fit. I've got 3 or 4 Anvil shirts now (international shipping meant I didn't know about the change 'til after I'd ordered, because clearly telling your community about a change in shirts somewhere they might see it would be a ridiculous idea...), and I don't even know if I'll wear them again. :/

I am voting with my wallet too. I didn't see the announcement about the change when it happened, so I bought a few shirts afterwards, although I think they all still came on AA blanks. However, since I did find out about the change I have not bought one single shirt, nor will I unless woot changes back to an American manufactured shirt that FITS ALL OF US correctly. I buy many shirts for my wife and kids, and I will not buy my wife an ill fitted shirt, nor my children a shirt made in a sweatshop by other children. There are at least 6 shirts I would have bought since I found out about this betrayal that I did not purchase, and some multiples of of them. I have turned MANY people onto shirt.woot, people who I know have bought many shirts too. I am in the process of informing all of them that they should not buy here anymore. Also, if I am out wearing one of my old woot shirts and someone says “cool shirt” I will tell them about teefury, shirtpunch…..and the many others, but I will not mention woot. I am not delusional enough to think woot will change anything because they lost me as a customer, but if they lose enough of us they may pay attention. I have made my intentions clear here already on many occasions, but I will say it again….no matter how cool the shirt, no matter how much my children or I like the shirt, I will NEVER purchase a woot shirt again until they get back shirts that fit all correctly and are made in America. Woot had shirts made in Bangladesh and claimed ignorance about it which shows that they do NOT have their eye on the ball anymore, or on their customers. They probably are too distracted by the piles of extra money they are making though. Anyway, I am disgusted at you woot, and by extension Amazon too. Shame on you both.

By the way, I would have bought today's shirt for my wife but.....well, see above

Also, by my count ( I could be off by 1 or 2) I have bought 167 products at woot.com. I have bought none since the shirt debacle. I didn't even watch the Woot-Off the other day so I would not be tempted. In short, I will not purchase from any part of the woot universe until things are put right, which I am assuming means I just won't be buying here again....and I think I can live with that....WOOT ;)

Apparently side-sale shirts that were advertised as printing on Anvil are showing up on AA. While the switch is the greatest "NOT COOL" thing of all, it's also not cool of woot to promise one type of blank and deliver the other, regardless of whether AA is switched with Anvil, or Anvil with AA. It sounds like the OP's family can wear their shirts, but most people - of course - can't swap sizes between the two blanks.

Left hand, meet right hand...

The last shirt I bought was Blending into Night, which was supposed to arrive on an AA blank, but came as Anvil instead. Needless to say, the sizing was wrong, but Woot was spot-on with switching me out for the right shirt. Kudos to them.

I was hoping the switch to Anvil wouldn't be a big deal, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The fabric is a more textured cotton instead of the silky smooth AA weave I've grown to know and love. The long lean fit that I treasured has also been replaced by something shorter, baggier, and not nearly as flattering. (Yes, I sized down, no that didn't help.) I tried washing the shirt a couple times, thinking that that might improve things, but it was no softer or nicer afterwards. The other problem - and this isn't really Anvil's fault - is that I have several pets who shed and while my AA shirts just brush off, the more textured Anvil weave seems to collect pet hair like it was magnetic. Not good.

I've enjoyed collecting Woot shirts and have always felt like their quality was a cut above the "average t-shirt." Unfortunately, with the switch to Anvil, I no longer feel as though this is the case. I've seen a number of designs I'd love to own in the last two months, but when I think about the shirt quality, I know they'd just get passed over in my dresser and haven't ordered them.

Honestly, I would have been a lot happier if Woot had just started charging $13-14 for new shirts and $16 for shirts in the Reckoning instead of keeping the prices lower and switching to a lower quality shirt. I was ok with paying more per shirt when they were printed on AAs, but the Anvil shirts just aren't worth it. I've been a daily woot checker since 2008 with 35 shirts to my name, but I'm seriously considering dropping the site from my morning bookmarks. No sense in continuing to look at awesome designs I won't want to buy. :'(

I am not a long time woot-er at all. Relatively new to buying the shirts and reading the forums.

I read all of the changing shirts threads before but I still bought Anvil shirts, not having any idea how the old quality was.

I now own 4 woot shirts- the first 2 were Anvils, and I haven't washed them yet but now I'm scared they won't fit after washing.

But then I bought 2 on the woot off on the same day and got them in the mail this week. I opened the 2 separate packages, looked at the shirts and liked the way the designs were. And then I actually felt them and WOW I noticed immediately that my Okey Dokey shirt was softer. I tried them both on and Oh My Fruitful Garden the one on AA was so comfortable, soft and I've worn it 3 times already. The quality is not the same with the Anvil AT ALL. I'm not having much fit issues so far (I buy men's sizes) but I did notice the difference in the neck holes which seems random to me.

Anyways, all that to say I noticed the difference immediately and I haven't been around long. So, basically I agree that the switch sucked.

I'll admit to buying one shirt on an anvil blank. Looked nice enough when I first opened it. After I washed it and wore it once, I haven't worn it again. The neck ballooned up way to big. Love the design, hate the shirt. No more shirts for me unless I find one on AA still.

AA shirts purchased from Woot: Over 40 in 6 months

Anvil shirts purchased: 0

And I wasn't even a fan of AA (the company or the blanks). What does that say about my feelings on Anvil?

Just to add my $0.02 -- or $610.00 I've spent on Woot! shirts since 2007 -- I won't be buying any more shirts on Anvil blanks. I also can't be bothered to search the fine details of every shirt.woot sale to see if it's an AA or an Anvil.

I recently bought two size women's small shirts for my girlfriend, and they will make wonderful shirts for her 13 year old son, who wears a men's medium. Holy crap are these sizes bad.

I must say that almost every shirt this week I LOVED. The star theme brought out some great shirts. If these were printed on AA I would have bought, with multiples, 8-10 shirts this week. Because of the switch to Anvil I bought nothing. I don't care how cool the shirt, until this wrong is righted I will not be buying here again, which probably means I just won't be buying here again as I doubt woot will change anything. Oh well, off to the other shirt sites, which have seen 3 purchases from me this week.....WOOT.

It's been nearly two weeks since I bought a shirt here, which is like a record for me!

I have bought 66 shirts/side sale items since buying #0001 on 01/01/12.

My would've-but-won't count is current at 18. My buying dollars has mostly shifted to GoodJoe, where they print on AA shirts (WS to W2XL for gals, S-3XL for guys).

Has woot said anything? I am seeing high dollars. My closet is literally busting at the seams with woot shirts. I haven't and wont buy another till this is fixed. To be honest I still might not just for the process of pride. Do they actually care or have we been duped by another company outsourcing and sending the product (and now informed customer) to the gutter? I am gonna start a blog about this.

Indeed. They won't switch back until they have at least a year's worth of data to compare to see buying trends. If there's a noticeable drop-off from the switch that can be reliably attributed to the switch (as opposed to seasonal or economic factors), it won't show up for a while. Everything we're saying here is simply anecdotal.

For what it's worth, I've bought a few Anvil shirts (ML) and have not noticed a big difference in fit before or after washing. Maybe I'm lucky. I prefer my AAs for feel, however, and general principle.

Either this or if there are logistic/contract issues. The colors used for the 880/990B blanks are not standard Anvil production colors, so it's not like they can readily pull stock off a shelf somewhere to fill in a shortage.

For some folks, it won't matter. For some, it will.

I should post up soon a comparison of one of the sample shirts I was sent and the AA shirt soon. I've noticed a difference in the quality not just in feel, but also in the ink printing as well.

This is kind of upsetting me. I mean they raised the price to offset the economy so that they can keep the product high for US. Now they are outsourcing to save bucks and keeping the price at 12$? Where exactly is the logic in all of this? I am really starting to think that even if things went back to normal I would be hard pressed to buy any shirt...even if Draxx won every derby...

As you can see I am not some fair-weather woot fan. I have been buying for a long time...and even longer than posted cause of my first account being messed up. There might be a very large woot shirt collection being put on ebay...or burned..haha

At the moment, one of my dogs is attempting to bury a (formerly) stuffed skunk in the sofa, and the other is pawing desperately at a closed glass window in an attempt to reach a rabbit that I chased off the lawn several minutes ago. There's a decent analogy there to this situation, IMHO: expending energy and angst on a task that will never be accomplished.

Of course, in five minutes, they'll both be happily asleep, dreaming of squirrels and kibble and belly rubs, and I'll probably still be here, driving up pages views on woot and increasing their revenue from ads. Some fights are worth fighting after they're "lost" - equality and human rights comes to mind - and some are not. Woot knew perfectly well that eventually the old-timies would stop shouting into the wind and disappear. I am mostly but not completely certain that there's nothing I can do to make a difference at this point. Some of you have adopted effective strategies within the limits of what we can do (hey, narfcake, any t-shirt sites still selling prints on AA blanks? ), but at what point do most of us simply walk away? And given that I have a lifetime's supply of LeakFrogs, first-aid kits, and Lock 'n' Lock, do I leave woot altogether?

RIP A.A. Blanks (Obituary)

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable with yourself. Woot (as an entity, not as individual contributors) won't notice whichever way you go.

eta: but other smaller companies will absolutely notice if you shift your purchasing. Choose your own adventure.

move along

It's great that bigger women can get comfier shirts, but what about us little gals? I loved the fit of the small before (not tight, but not baggy), but my newest woot shirt was very baggy and unflattering looking on me. I'd buy children's, but the cut isn't right. I'm sad because I love woot and have many many of your shirts, but they're just too darn big now. Please consider an extra small option for your petite customers. I know I'm not the only one!
