Re: Peg-Leg Pete's

The rule, "No text only designs. You must have a graphical element." is very clear, and this very clearly has a graphical element.

Beautiful work as always Patrick! You provide exceptional artwork almost every week. I foresee this taking 1st or 2nd in the derby.

Bilyum it up all day long!

there's nothing to rejectinate

It is cute, clever and witty.

An artist can have the best technical skills in the world, but without concept and an understanding of audience, he/she will never be successful. Certainly this design could be expanded on in terms of aesthetics, but in terms concept and knowing the audience it is ideal. Simple conceptual designs tend to get more praise than intricate illustrations that say nothing.

that only applies to designs that have been printed. Every derby there are a handful of designs where people have the same exact idea. It's not a big deal.

Re: AyePhone

This is great! Among all the pirates with Pies or Pi or Rats, this stands out... and should be getting more votes. I agree with meepee, if the title was in the design, maybe written "ayePhone" more people might get it right away and vote. Or - "ayePhone 7 seas"?

Anyway, this is cute, unique, and well done. GMV

Re: All Sails Ahead!

I wish the colours on the pirate himself were perhaps a bit brighter. Currently he gets lost amid the dark shadows of the ship. My eye is drawn more to the sun than the figure or the ship, and I'm unsure if that was your intent? You've clearly put a lot of work in this, and it's a shame that the details seem to get muddied and blend together.

agree - I saw this as a work-in-progress before the derby opened for subs so there is no way it could be deemed a copy of someone else's design.

I came to the realization that when you say pirates like pilates, it is pretty fun..Go ahead and try it.

I also realized that when you spell pirates like pilates, well, you still get pirates. That's where the pronunciation comes in to play :D

Spiritgreen wrote:Handsome design!

I'm not completely sold on this as a shirt, but as a digital painting it's awesome. The sense of volume is so strong this almost feels 3D. Very impressive lighting too.

I have to agree. lovely illustration and digital painting but not a very wearable design. the sun is the focal point because of its brightness and not the ship and pirate which should be focal point and its kind all over the shirt like a air brush painted shirt you buy at an amusement park. Believe me its well done but not for a shirt. and this is just my take but he looks a bit like Jack Sparrow which for a no pop culture ruled derby is a bit much.

Re: Peg-Leg Pete's

I got agree with the commenters that this is barely acceptable for the no text only rule this week. it would have been easy to detail the image in the bg more to overcome this. And I think its a funny design and would hate it to be rejected for this rule this week. Plus just trying to see things from other perspectives this may be considered offensive to those people that have prosethics. I not offended. Just considering how other may take it.

I love the concept and think this would be a great party shirt. It's just too bad it has not received more votes because I really want one.
