Gee, so those of us who don't fit AA now wear tents?

Fail, sir. As I've said elsewhere, no need to be insulting.

I second this. Currently wearing an AA WXL and while it fits, it's not exactly comfortable/flattering.

Wore my first Anvil shirt the other day (Too Many Cooks) and am happy to report it fit better than any of the AA woman's shirts did.

You do realize that when he said "tent", he didn't mean "large", right? He was merely referring to the fact that they fit weird on a LOT of women. They "tent" out at the bottom.

I just want to second that... I really doubt it was Narfcake's intention to insult anyone. Well, okay, maybe Anvil as a company, but certainly not any individual members of the shirt.woot community. He may have chosen his words wrong, but I can say with near certainty that he's not a sizeist jerk.

Alas, poor shirt.woot. I knew it well...

He's definitely NOT a jerk. He's pretty awesome, actually. If you read anything that's he's written in the women's sizes forum, you'll see that he's been nothing but kind and supportive. The *majority* of what is posted there (by the women) is in regards to the terrible 'tent' fit of the new shirts. He's trying to be helpful...

I was agreeing with the original response that the description of the shirts as tents is a darn poor choice of words. It's been said a few times that while all of this discussion about the changes is going on, people need to watch their phrasing because it is quite easy to use an example/description to make your point that is actually hurtful. While that may not be the intention (I know narfcake's comment was directed more at woot, but it still stings when you like the new "tent size" shirts) that's how it can come across.

Yeah, it's just another example of 'let's all be sensitive to each other and how we word things'.

Also, let's not all jump to the side of presuming everyone is deliberately trying to be hurtful. Text, it's hard!

I'm just hanging out, really.

Thanks so much for posting this, Narfcake! Not only is my design glow in the dark and Walmazan's insanely adorable, $3 of every shirt sold will be donated to Falling Whistles to support their work in helping former child soldiers in Congo. Their inspiring story is shared on http://www.fallingwhistles.com. Get some cool shirts and help the children.

Correct that my comment wasn't meant to offend anyone at all, but rather, exaggerate the "bell effect" that the new blanks have. Obviously, many of us still despise the change - it's like a good friend leaving all of a sudden for practically no rhyme or reason. It's hard to get over, because you still have all the memories.

I am truly sorry for my choice of words here, and I have since redacted the comment in the original post.

First off, sorry to Fishbiscuit5 and Walmazan about this post getting a bit hijacked. Those designs are great and I'm glad that Narfcake shared that info with everyone here.

Narfcake, thanks for the apology and I owe you one as well. I'm sorry I instantly jumped to the "tent-sized shirt" point. Everyone has an opinion on the AA/Anvil switch for various reasons. It's just been difficult to sit back and read comments about Anvil's large size and fit issues. I doubt many people here, yourself included, mean for their comments to come across as "only bigger women fit into these shirts" but sometimes that's how it can read for those of us who do appreciate the extra space that the Anvil shirts offer in comparison to the AA ones.

So, if describing the shirt as a tent is taken as a fat insult for someone who likes Anvil, should people take your statement to mean those who prefer AA are anorexic and/or built like a boy?

The street. It goes both ways.

Personally, I don't care if people want to throw around terms like "beanpole" or "tent," but if you're going to get preachy about watching phrasing, you may want to consider your own.

Now, back on topic.

It's an adorable Walzaman shirt. It's on AA. It's light blue and not a variation of black/gray/brown.

I think I'm off to make my first Good Joe purchase.

Here, take my statement as this -
I'm fat. The close fitting style of the AA women's shirts, even the WXL, was not remotely flattering on me. I hardly wear those shirts outside of my home because I usually hate how fat I look in the AA shirts. I like the style of the new Anvils because it leaves a little room and doesn't highlight everything I hate about my body.

That enough clarification? Hm?

For the record, I said in the "let's talk lady sizes" thread that I sympathize with the females who can't find an Anvil shirt that fits them properly. I can understand how it feels to want a woot shirt, but you can't find one that fits your frame, whatever it may be.

You seem to be missing the point.

It doesn't matter at all to me which shirt you prefer. It doesn't matter which shirt I prefer. But it's obnoxious to get pissy about Narf using the term "tent" and telling people to watch their phrasing when, in the very same thread, you are doing the exact same thing.

I used the term "curve" in the initial post, because one way to refer to women like myself is curvy. I thought that was a recognized way of gently saying "larger than 'average' size," my mistake for trying to use that gentler term to describe females like myself who have issues with how close fitting shirts like the AA ones cling to their frame. Is every female who liked the AA sizes without curves? No. Just once one's shape hits a certain point, the AA style becomes unflattering. That's what I encountered and others have as well.

I did not mean to upset anyone with my initial post, which I have since edited. I was focused more on my perspective and my personal issue with this debate. A person's size is a sensitive issue, whatever size you are. We ALL need to keep that in mind as discussions about the AA/Anvil differences continue.

As for obnoxious - arguing semantics about size with someone who has demonstrated that the issue upsets them is a horrible idea. It makes the issue greater and can totally ruin a person's night and now day. So, thanks for that.

What's in a name? that which we call Anvil(TM)

I believe that perhaps "obnoxious" needs to be taken out of the conversation here, on all sides, as it's maaaaaybe getting a little too personal. Every person is responsible for his or her own words and level of communication/sharing on the internet. However, that does not deny the difficulty of communication and interpretation in this medium, as we none of us have magical empathic abilities here and know what another person truly means, unless we assume... or unless we ask.

Language has been clarified to a large extent within the thread and it seems rather clear that no one meant to convey any snark or ill intent with their choices of words. If people have apologized to each other already, it seems as though it may be ungenerous for everyone involved to continue to pick at what all seem to be good faith efforts at communication. It may perhaps be best to leave it at that, if misunderstanding cannot be politely addressed or put aside?

I dunno. I'm not too good at this wordy taptalk braintouch grokking thing, either. I do like t-shirts, though.

I rose in rainy autumn and walked abroad in a shower of all my days.
