Majored in creative writing with a poetry focus in college. This derby may be the derby to get me back into derbying.

I hate that poem so much, but I would buy a shirt about it in an instant because the obscure reference would make me lol every time I wore it.

Two poems that I like that might serve as shirt inspiration for folks are:

John Gillespie Magee Jr's High Flight and Alfred Lord Tennyson's Crossing the Bar.

I changed my mind. Someone do that poem. And stay away from Robert Frost. Specifically that one poem. You know what I mean.

Oh that my drawing abilities translated to the computer.

My two favorites?

"The Naked and The Nude", by Robert Graves (likely won't translate well to shirts)

and

"Siren Song", by Margaret Atwood, which could make for an absolutely fantastic shirt.

I love that one. I will allow this Frost poem. But not the other one.

That would make for a great Drakxxx/CrescentDebris collab, but we haven't seen them around these here parts much of late.

Is it too much to hope for less-popular shirt colors to win so that the derby prints will be on AA? My English-degreed, too-small-for-Anvil body would be overjoyed.

I started to think Edward Lear's nonsense poems would make an interesting shirt, and then as I read some tonight it reminded me how much they unnerved me as a kid. The Jumblies going to sea in a sieve, and so on. :/

In high school, our english teacher actually played us an audio recording of Eliot reading this. It was pretty awesome.

I wonder if the Jabberwock is too pop-culture, and how many Jabberwockys we'll see.

Would love to see a design based on "The Emperor of Ice-Cream," which seems to be about ice cream, but is actually a funeral poem. Lots of creepy sweetness.

That's a good question. Jabberwocky is from Through the Looking Glass, so maybe that does qualify it as pop-culture rather than pure poetry? What about Dr Seuss's rhyming passages, Tolkien's poems that can be found throughout the LotR trilogy or Vogon poems from Hitchhikers? (ode to a piece of green putty...)

As usual I'm glad I'm not the one drawing the line.
