It's simple really. What are the average sales for the shirts you've purchased?

The idea sort of popped into my head recently with all of the nonsense that woot has been doing recently. My opposition to the change has been less than secret, but I am not the only one who has expressed that they will be changing their purchasing habits.

I know my purchases are too low for woot to notice or care, but it got me thinking where I fall into the purchasing spectrum. Total sales seem to me the best gauge of mass appeal and the easiest metric for the average user to collect for themselves. I've excluded shirts I've bought as gifts or that were purchased by others on my account before they had their own. So without further ado....

Total shirts: 34

Average Sales: 2518

Top Seller: The Cake is a Liar (10486)

Bottom Seller:: Windup Wildlife Encounter* (771)

Shirts per year
2012: 1
2011: 5
2010: 2
2009: 10
2008: 14
2007: 2

Shirt Breakdown
Dailies: 13
Derbies: 18
Editor's Choice: 2
Side Sales: 1

*Side sales excluded because the numbers are by design lower because of the transitory nature of the offer and not directly comparable.

So where do you fit in?

That's way too much time & effort for me.

Not including randoms, and for only shirts that I have purchased for myself:

Khione is probably the lowest selling with 1858.

Acquired Taste is the bestselling shirt that I have purchased. I personally own 3 copies.

None of my other personal shirts have hit above 6,500.

Total shirts I've purchased is 39, plus an apron and a hoodie. Those are my total purchases for myself, family, and gifts. That's in less than 6 months.

Out of those 41 total Woot items, only one was a cat shirt.

And I'm not buying any Anvil.

It's sneakily easy. Took me about 15 minutes to compile everything. Just go to your account and open the duscuss page in a new tab for all the shirts you've bought. The number sold is right at the top and you can just close the windows as you write the numbers down.

Between my fiance and I, we own 15 woot shirts - trying to sell/trade 5 of them. So 10. Six last year (five of which were gifts given to us), the rest this year (bought, traded, or randoms).

Out of ones I purposefully bought from woot (which totals to an impressive 4 - 3 of which were on a Monday right before/right after the Reckoning):
Most common: The cheese is a Liederkranz at 20667
Least common: Too many cooks at 1537

Of ones that were given to me as a gift, received as randoms, or for which I traded:
Most common: It came out of nowhere at 37647
Least common: Housewarming Gifts at 114 (and trying to trade it still)

Excluding side sales and random sales, I have purchased 79 t-shirts total here (not counting today), of which there are 65 different designs.

The average sales of my purchased designs are 3403.

The top five highest-selling designs:
1. 25,610, imposter (1 for my cousin)
2. 17,508, donut panic (1 for me, 1 for my cousin)
3. 12,705, fresh cake (1 for me)
4. 10,486, the cake is a liar (2 for me)
5. 9,696, fat unicorn (1 for me, 1 for my cousin, 1 for a friend)

The top five lowest-selling designs:
1. 365, I just called to say (2 for me)
2. 405, final approach (1 for me)
3. 564, how the deer gets his antlers (2 for me)
4. 635, the amazing one trick pony (1 for me)
5. 652, the awakening (2 for me) (<--FAVORITE SHIRT EVARRR!!1!)

Number of shirts purchased per year:
2008: 2
2009: 39

2011: 17
2012, not counting today: 5

Fun fact: Before I found shirt.woot, I owned only 3-4 t-shirts that I would willingly wear in public, and even then I'd feel odd. Back then, t-shirts were only something one wore to sleep or around the house--not something appropriate to social/public venues. Now? I'LL BE DAMNED IF I WEAR AUGHT ELSE. Shirt.woot has turned me into a happy slob.

I rose in rainy autumn and walked abroad in a shower of all my days.

Should multiple copies be factored into the average too?

I didn't? I did it by number of designs, not shirts. Kinda felt it would be cleaner that way, since the goal is average sales according to design, right, so multiples of the same design wouldn't be useful/accurate to what's being measured?

I figured up the numbers for my Woot collection. I excluded side-sale items, shirts I purchased as gifts for others, and randoms I've never worn + want to be rid of. I included shirts I bought on both my own and my boyfriend's accounts (some of which were later traded away), randoms I kept and wear regularly, as well as designs I obtained via trade.

For my own curiosity I did two averages, one with and one without the top-seller, just to see what a drastic difference one top-selling shirt can make to the overall number.

These numbers are probably final, since sadly, I've likely made my last Woot purchase. Even if they did meet my sizing needs, I just don't like the new Anvil blanks. Given my declining purchases in recent years and "slightly less than mainstream" taste, it doesn't seem like Woot will miss my $. It was fun while it lasted, I suppose ...

So where do you fit in? I guess I am pretty Mainstream.

Got my first Anvil this week with Curiosity. Went from WXL to WM. I don't think the fit is as terrible as some do, (I always tuck my shirts in, it was long enough and the extra fabric at the bottom didn't bother me) but somehow the quality felt lacking. The shirt just didn't seem as nice, and the printing seems a little bit off kilter. Still need to wash it and see after that.

Here's the math I ran for mine. I've been trying to compile numbers from two accounts (my husband and mine), as we occasionally purchase for each other.
If I bought a long-sleeve or hoodie, I used the original designs sale numbers, instead of the side sale numbers, because I would've bought the original if it had been available.

Shirt.Woots Bought Per Year across both accounts (includes side sales and randoms):
2009: 2
2010: 0 (Didn't become a daily wooter until mid-2011)
2011: 22
2012: 13

Details for me:
Total Shirts (Excluding 6 Unworn Randoms): 21
Average Sales: 4630 (includes 2 shirts still available via reckoning - Nyan's Dream and Free Hugs)
Median Sales: 3893 (jasneko's Existential Whale)

Bottom Seller:
Epic Hairball - walmazan - 671

Top Seller:
Fresh Cake - walmazan - 12705

Details for my husband:
Total Shirts (Excluding 2 Unworn Randoms): 11
Average Sales: 14148 (includes 1 shirt still available via reckoning - The Binge)
Median Sales: 6660 (RamyB's Transitions)

Bottom Seller:
Changing Sides - jlegos - 1855

Top Seller:

Shirts not from random or side deals (or gifts)
39, 38 if you are only counting those not in reckoning any more.

On average 3043 other people bought the same shirt I did. Many of the ones I thought would be under 1000 surprised me at being the average.

578- I think that is the one with the lowest count that I have bought but I'm not going back and checking all, since I just used a calculator and not pen.

This was actually kind of fun to work on. I have so many shirts packed away, so my total shirts count doesn't include randoms and trades. I honestly don't know how many shirts I have.

Total (excluding randoms/trades): 34

Average Sales: 2436

Top Sellers:
To the Top in the Style of Da Vinci (7189 or 7434 after recent side sale)
Ugly Holiday Sweater 2011 (7429)

Bottom Seller: Tie-Dyed Too purchased specifically for Spring Rebirth (748)

Shirts per year
2012: 8 + 2 randoms
2011: 8 + 6 randoms
2010: 2 + 2 randoms
2009: 5 + 4 randoms
2008: 10 + 4 randoms
2007: 1 (not including the woot screaming monkey shirt sold on woot.com during a woot-off)

Shirt Breakdown
Derby: 15
Daily: 8
EC: 3
Side or Special Sales: 8
Randoms: 18

That total number of 34 is very low compared to how many shirts I really have. I would estimate my collection to be closer to 60 or 70. My shirts also range in size from XL to 3XL due to weight loss. The majority of my shirts are 3XL, but I can't seem to part with them even though they are way too big.

2. F5 Refreshes You (3758)
3. Flying (1809)
4. Autobiography (907)
5. How the Deer Gets His Antlers (564)

Too many shirts for me to want to do the math officially so I'll give you first, most recent (for me not as a gift) and a randomly generated selection (I liked cmillard1's list and went from there -- we all organize ourselves differently, this is mine. Statistics don't tell me what I might want to know about a shirt buyer):

First: Geometry Blows -- 1791
Recent: Apocalyptus 141
Recent (not side sale): ProCATStination 3310

A Random Selection of approximately 10% (random number generated)

#37 Live Not On Evil (love this shirt) 1931
#4 Breakdance (see above) 1676
#93 Coffee Break 586
#128 Haunted Scarecrow 5152
#83 They're Watching 5371
#64 "Buzz Aldrin" Always Sounded Like A Sports Name 3424
#62 Squeeze 8556
#59 Sakura Samurai 4157
#106 License and Registration 1759
#89 Night School 811
#18 Big On The Inside 2548
#108 Two Queens 1525
#27 (ok, this is actually #28, but it's my favorite shirt.woot) Zombie Vampire Robots from Space 3773
#27 (actual) Neo Australia 1555
#117 You Can't Catch Me 2597

I have happily purchased both Housewarming Gifts 114 and Crowd Control 179

On the upper end of the spectrum (full disclosure), one of my first purchases was Imposter 25610 which amused my target audience greatly. The only other one of the "big" number shirts I've acquired was Fresh Cake 12705

Draw your own conclusions about my level of "mainstream."
