sprax wrote:My buddy and I also thought it would be more appropriate to use CGS units since that is preferred in astronomy.

~ sprax

Really? CGS is the preferred Astronomy system? I'm not an astonomer, actually a physics/engineering guy, but I would have imagined that MKS is preferred, given the scale of the objects being studied. Or at the very least some sort of MKS/IAU combination.

What a pain it was when I moved from physics, where we used MKS, to Engineering where everything switched back to the imperial system. Grumble grumble...imperial units grumble grumble.

Anyway, I like this design a lot. I agree with some of the points made, that the formulas could look a little more formulaish (I don't think that's a word), but even still it's something I would totally wear.

Re: Nebula Eyecing

very nice, great colors

might even work better as a print than a shirt, I know I'd hang it in my office, as long as it wasnt some huge poster thing, more a tastefully frames object d'art, esp since I lost the bidding on the Scream yesterday

Re: Astroknot

I'd so wear this. Such a great visual pun, and well executed. It may be too late to get the votes you need to win, so I hope there's at least an Editor's Choice for it.

@sleekhare, I reworked the text so that it's exploding from the supernova. This would probably have been a better way to go:

Definitely loving the dimension your changes added.

The slight blending of the text into the graphic is a nice touch as well. Lends an air of uncertainty to "concrete"-ness of the chemical equations.

Re: Moonlight Sonata

Come on Moonlight Sonata, oh most beautiful shirt in this derby and one of the best of any derby, perfect in concept and execution with a wonderful PURPLE and NAVY palette. Purple-based shirts almost never win, it's so, so sad!

I am praying and wishing this wins, COME ON MAKE IT TO THE FOG, or at least get an Editor's Choice, because I am positive a good number, a large majority, of the female population of woot (which is sadly the minority overall) would buy this shirt by the droves!

[quote postid="4985783"

no kidding on the units...the only reason in astronomy we use cgs is due to E&M...distance are large regardless, so when it comes to the E7 M (light and such) in cgs you no longer have things light 4 pi epsilon_0. I got to be engineering Physics..and use all three systems...cgs no really, easiest by far.

It maters which way it goes. It matters very much to me. Way to design something that really plays with my emotions.

No, it's definitely a dog. I'm not sure if the shirt designer meant it this way, but I decided personally that it's Sirius from Harry Potter, cause he can turn into a dog. So it's Sirius, looking serious, staring at Sirius.
