If you don't know, vespertine refers to something that's active in the evening, such as the luna moth or moonflower.

I totally missed the bird's feet! My initial reaction to reading your post was, "Oh no, I liked it so much and now it's creepy!" My second reaction was, "This is eight layers of brilliant!"

Wow, walmazan - just wow!

Re: Jitterbug

I share an office with a guy who has started drinking three pots of coffee a day, all brewed in our office, and he leaves a half-full pot when he leaves for the day, so our office reaks of stale coffee.

This reminds me of him. I love it!

Re:

I love this ! How old-fashioned romantic.

ETA: For some reason, the auto-feature that inserts a small version of the thumbnail and a url to the Derby entry isn't working for this entry. I've "tattled" on the problem, so hopefully it will be fixed soon! In the meanwhile, everyone go look at colinlepper's "Couple Bugs," because it's GREAT!

Re: Curl up with a Good Book

This is me: often curled up in a small ball with a book in my hands! Absolutely adore this entry; it's a great example of how a fairly simple/straightforward design can make a big statement.

I wanted to try a different thumbnail. Plus his eyes were a little too buggy for me.

Re: The Guy In The Apartment B

When I look at the design, I don't see it as anthropomorphizing bees; I see it as zoomorphizing humans as "busy bees." From that perspective, the biological inaccuracy of adult bees "living" in honeycomb doesn't bother me at all. (Plus, I think I could wear this shirt for months and not run into anyone who a) knew that b) was bothered by it.) I really like this design, walmazan, and I hope it prints somewhere in a size that I can wear.

orabbit wrote:Something tells me this affair will end badly.

Oh, I'm not sure it's an affair, per se. It reminds me of one of my favorite pieces of short animation ever, "One Man Band." (If anyone watches that video, hang around through the credits: it comes back.) I see a little girl amazed by a street performer and awed by his music. Hmm, you know what? You're right; that might end badly. I'm going to pretend her parents are just out of sight but paying close attention.

ApeLad, I really like this. Great design, great story - whatever story each of us reads into the design. Hmm, now I have an idea of revising the Thematic Apperception Test to use shirt.woot designs. "ApeLad, I'm going to hand you a card. It has a shirt design on it. Tell me a story about the shirt design on that card, including a description of the event in the picture, the developments that led up to the event, the thoughts and feelings of the insects and arachnids in the picture, and the outcome of the story."

Nice work! The bug really pops now. I also like how you changed the placement of the coffee pot, too. Now his bug-arms make a lot of interesting space and the mugs stand out more. Yay! +1

That's such a good visual with lots of cool detail dribbled over the image. Designs on grass green really seem to be working for you Naolito. I'm always pleased with any success you get considering the amazingly high level of consistency in your work.

aerc712 & ochopika - Thanks for your help pre-derby. It's hard to see things when I'm rushing. I always notice stuff after uploading.

neuropsychosocial - Glad you can relate. I felt like a jitterbug today as I emerged from my dark basement workshop into the sun. The derby really tweaks me.

Re: Pollinate

Haven't you draw this same butterfly enough? Does it really needed to be submitted to every derby ever that it might possibly have a relation to the theme?
