Time again for another march toward t-shirt doom! Discuss this week's life-or-death struggle for sales supremacy as chronicled on the Reckoning page all week long.

Here's how the Reckoning week runs now: every Tuesday at midnight, we retire the previous week's lowest-selling shirts and launch this here discussion thread. Tuesday around noon we'll post the all-new, all-early Reckoning Recon. On Friday, we'll juice demand and prime the pump with a little weekend reminder post. Finally, on the following Monday, the Day of Reckoning post sounds the last call for the Reckoned shirts. All of those posts will be linked below. Monday night (or Tuesday morning), it starts all over again. The Reckoning, she is a hungry beast...

I really don't care about posting an AA update any more - and let's face it, no one cares either, but I'll block out a post in case I get really bored or in case Narfcake twists my arm until I update the stupid, useless, increasingly short list.

Huh, Monday's shirt is listed as being up for 2 weeks, again. No anxious one banner for it.

Ramy's design features a dragon. And people are debating whether it's realistic. I need to find that thread about having faith in humanity and edit my reply.

This Reckoning-related post in the Reckoning thread is related to the Reckoning because the Reckoning currently features a turtle painting, a muppet passed out after drinking milk, a talking vegetable, a painting rabbit, a planet emceeing, zombies riding a John Deere, fish reading pictures, a time machine, birds quoting, stormtroopers and Darth Vader in quotidian situations, ninjas, unicorns, bees in apartments, and an utterly meaningless fake math formula.

The only design in the stupid Wreckoning that's vaguely "realistic" is not exactly cutesy and adorable in its reality. Although that situation can make people breathe fire, metaphorically but deservedly, so perhaps it's connected to dragons after all.

I am cranky. Just in case you hadn't read the preceding post and noticed my intense crankiness, but might happen to read this part. Because we're talking about reality.

I haven't read the griping, but from looking at the fogged designs I'm inclined to agree. This Derby is about creating a realistic-seeming 3D image, and Ramy's dragon design doesn't do that -- not because it features a dragon, but because that dragon and its surroundings are very flat, 2D-looking. To my eye the same can be said about half the designs in the fog, so Ramy should not be the only one taking grief for it.

Woot is notoriously inconsistent about enforcing the Derby theme, so this should surprise nobody.

This^!!!!!!!

The problem with a lot of the entries in the current derby is that the artist hasn't really nailed the desired effect - points to all for trying, I do NOT draw very well - and this has been pointed out to SOME [but not ALL] of the artists who have a weak 3d effect going, but not with the same LEVEL OF ANGER [HATE, ??????] as the comments left for one of Woot's best selling artists. THIS is NOT the place to re-air the debate - it never goes anywhere and frequent visitors to Shirt.Woot know the issues. As our old Ag teacher used to say, "some people wouldn't be happy if you hung 'em with a new rope!"

That's a dragon? I thought it was a Charizard, some deep inner comment on the child's soul burning within the heart of us all.

Side note: you know what I love about the interwebz? I can spew BS like this and everyone assumes I'm keeping a straight face. :oP

I was thinking, if you do choose to do the AA list again, maybe make it shorter, something like

WOMENS:

KIDS:

maybe if I get a crazy moment today I'll do that myself.

Understood, but the point is that it's a n.o.o.b. to the wreckoning, has only been "on the [reckoning] chart" for 1 week, and is missing the banner that would identify it as new to the wreckoning.

Prior to the site re-design, Monday shirts were always identified as such. These are new times we're living in. New times, indeed.

That was a note for the programmers that will never actually read this thread, but yeah. Prior to the redesign they had a different back end, and I think the Reckoning was hand coded. Now it appears to be interfaced into the system, and that's causing this issue:

DEFINE A WEEK.

If you define a week as "anything that occured after point A" then define point A as the Reckoning (12:00PM Monday CST) Then the debuet of the monday Shirt at 12:00AM Monday CST clearly happened BEFORE the Reckoning. Therefore this is week 2 for that shirt. I've often wondered how (and why) they use a 12 hour ofset for the Reckoning, it's given me fits when trying to duplicate the codes Narf built, and apparently it's now flummoxing the IT staff at woot as well.

Rule #1 of the Reckoning Thread: Don't discuss the Reckoning.
Rule #2 of the Reckoning Thread: Do not come into the Reckoning thread and start a response to one of the Reckoning Regulars with the phrase "I haven't bothered to read what you're talking about, but..."
Rule #2a of the Reckoning Thread: If you decide to violate Rule #2, do not pull this with one of the Reckoning Regulars who teaches high school or college students in an evidence-based discipline because we have significant experience with children and young adults pulling this particular act on us and zero patience for it.

Each class of undergrads only makes the mistake of offering an opinion on the evidence before them without examining said evidence once per semester. And my grad students will interrupt each other as soon as someone gets to the "but" because they know; institutional memory is a beautiful thing. Sure, I'm nicer to them than I'm being right now, but don't kid yourself: I can be devastating in my niceness.

Two truths and a lie: I was not cranky today until I discovered the utter lack of reading comprehension around woot; I've merely realized that I hate people and have decided to become a the resident woot curmudgeon.

Bounty, please retrieve all Monty Python jokes, proceed immediately to the Wreckoning thread, and explain the Monty Python jokes to Neuro.

I'm half-kidding: my Monty Python knowledge is thin, but I'll go google and see if I can find an explanation!

(I've seen very little Monty Python; I usually found the premises to be quite funny when my ex would relate them, but the pieces themselves frequently dragged out the joke so long that they lost all humor for me - so we settled on "just summarize instead of pulling out the DVD and then we'll laugh hysterically." It worked well.)

The only Python you will need to see in order to understand 90% of the interweb Python references is Holy Grail.

My definition of patience was set years ago when my son was reading parts of my copy of the script of Holy Grail to a group of friends. He was laughing so hard he had trouble reading. They never told him they knew the movie by heart.

If it makes it through #253 in #1, then it would've matched the record for longest streak in the #1 spot.

Considering that BBT has been renewed though May 2014 as part of a three year deal, and stands to get another season after that, it'd easily get those numbers before it gets canceled. It might even beat the Raven, eventually.

Seriously, your biggest threat to Hamper status at this point is WB's legal department. What I'd really love right about now are Straight comparisons of Binge's first 3 months to Formula's, just to see if it's moving faster than the super shirt.

While we can't say "it was this" with out numbers, the pattern tends to be that when a popular shirt starts to flail, it's because it had a bad 2 week run. While it's flailing it'll post record numbers, to help offset the flail. 2 weeks later, when the low weeks drop, and the "save weeks" are the bottom two, it shoots way up to the top. People feel safe, stop buying, and it coasts on 2 Awesome weeks while getting two bad weeks.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

I think the key to Binges sucess is that it NEVER leaves 10-15. So long as it posts that sweet spot every week it never has a bad/good cycle that puts it in danger of falling.

I would think (hope) that Woot would have ran it by their lawyers before accepting my design if they felt that their may be any problems with legality... Of course, that doesn't stop WB from being pricks if they really wanted to be I suppose... ;)

And comparisons would be a little like apples and oranges I would think... I am not sure how popular Woot was a few years ago when the Binge debuted, but I would think it's more popular now, hence a bigger audience now compared to then... Of course, I am still new to the whole Woot thing, so I could be completely off... LOL!

I am just really hoping that it's still up for sale by the time ComiCon happens next month, cause I was planning on wearing mine there... For advertising... :D

Yeah, that makes sense. It also explains the reason why Nevermore bounces up and down so much. This means that there is no curse or jinx, in which merely mentioning Nevermore getting reckoned guarantees its survival.

Standing theory is actually that there's some people who know the artist's situation (go read the posts on it's thread, really moving) who contribute if it needs saving.

My wife and I think that they're being sold in Poe Meusem Gift Shops, because you can buy a Woot shirt for $15 then sell it for $25. The state color map does not currently support this theory.
