Staff

Time again for another march toward t-shirt doom! Discuss this week's life-or-death struggle for sales supremacy as chronicled on the Reckoning page all week long.

Here's how the Reckoning week runs now: every Tuesday at midnight, we retire the previous week's lowest-selling shirts and launch this here discussion thread. Tuesday around noon we'll post the all-new, all-early Reckoning Recon. On Friday, we'll juice demand and prime the pump with a little weekend reminder post. Finally, on the following Monday, the Day of Reckoning post sounds the last call for the Reckoned shirts. All of those posts will be linked below. Monday night (or Tuesday morning), it starts all over again. The Reckoning, she is a hungry beast...

And it appears that we may be in the midst of The Wreckoning II: The ReWreckoning; the DSRs that include sales from the day of the Great EC2 Crash may not be particularly accurate, either. Yikes!

At least Artichokey looks happily ensconced in the middle of the Reckoning. (If you're reading this and wonder why I love this shirt so much, you should buy one and find out for yourself!)

Great. Woot's response to everyone complaining about cat shirts is to reprint old cat shirts for the woot plus deal this week.

I didn't really know where to leave this comment since the woot plus deals don't have individual threads. This seemed as good a place as any.

Bouts of Consternation:
8/17/11; 9/14/11; 10/12/11; 11/09/11, 12/06/11; 4/26/12

And right now.

Escape from the Cold must be selling pretty well to climb out of the Danger Zone so quickly. I was a little surprised to see it so high given its middling debut day numbers (especially compared to Your Ideas). Then again, that's post-debut popularity in action, I suppose.

Yup!

Escape from the Cold: a) Can I escape from this heat? b) I wonder if its greater-than-typical-post-first-day-sales-for-Derby2 is a combination of Ramy and server crash: it sold fewer than expected because sales were unavailable for a large portion of the day, but maybe Ramy shirts are more likely to result in people returning to purchase when "frustrated" by a sale/unable to purchase on the first day.

I can't fathom a thing about Ramy's fans. I like some of his designs, but this new one with the spiky Cooler Than You penguin is too silly for me. Ramy clearly has the pulse of the tee shirt buying public or the stuff wouldn't sell.

On another note, World Dom for Cats is going to require me to buy an extra copy earlier than I though it would.

I figured he did it on purpose: the Derby was announced the day after (or thereabouts) the Grammar Fight Thread was resurrected and I figured this was his response. It's such a caricature of a particular style of animation. Even back in the penguin days, Ramy didn't slap a belly on his penguins as a separate layer-like thing. (Actually, it reminds me of the early days of Pixar, circa "Knick Knack.")

Anyone read wootbot's opening post this week? I'm on my phone, so I can't quote, but he promises that not only will he update on a particular schedule, but also that the updates will be linked below! Me, I'm not counting any wootbot-posts before they're posted.

See, this is exactly my problem. Clouds are puffy and cause rain. Rain is made fo water. Water shorts out computers. So why in the name of all that's holy do we keep putting computers in the cloud?

Perhaps "The Binge" and "Nevermore" should be moved to some kind of Hall of Fame list where they can be purchased indefinitely. It seems that there is potential for there to eventually be a day where the variety of available shirts is limited due to the massive success of a few shirts that will never leave the list.

But . . . maybe that's the point.

Hey Narf, looks like there is a glitch in the DSR for the shirts. It appears you based it off roughly noon (presumably 12:06 pm CT/10:06 am PT) on Sunday.

Yup, the Wreckoning was one big glitch! (Although it looks like the denominator for the most recent set of DSRs might be off by 12 hours - Narf last pulled DSRs around noon on July 4th, I think, instead of midnight as he typically does, and the formula may not have been adjusted back.) Eh, when I squint really hard at the Reckoning numbers and readjust the math in my head, Artichokey is still safe - and really, what else matters?

No kidding. It's barely broken 700 as of this post. Pretty sure at least one Ramy shirt has done worse in the past, but this is an outlier to his recent designs. I would blame it on cat hate/overindulgence, but other cat designs are doing fine.

So, did the new WOOT do away with the Random days too? Unless I missed it, the last one was May 15th or nearly two months.

Perhaps they have gone to print to order...

Random day is about the only way Woot is going to get me to try one of their non-AA shirts.

'Course, the change has saved me a bundle of money.

I think that's the biggest part of the issue: With the issues they've had on QC and Sizing Returns, they don't have enough left for a random sale, and if they do one they're going to loose money doing reprints for errors.
