Gotta admit, I missed the pun here. But I though of this as Oregon Trail Mix, which isn't too far off from the real thing.

And it worked with the old video game shirt from yesterday too!

I loved that. The fact is people have different ideas of humor and some of us even deal with tragedy by joking. In my view, if it's remembered, even through (dark) humor, it's important.

Anyone ever seen the movie Ravenous? The man sees a group of men riding towards the fort and says, "Breakfast, lunch, and reinforcements."

Living in Florida I had never heard of this or anything about this at all. Had to read the wikipedia link someone posted.

Was it made fun of in a movie or something? I don't think many people in my circle will get the joke because they won't have heard of the story...

I grew up in NH and am quite familiar with the story. It was definitely mentioned in my American History classes on the westward pioneers.

It works on so many levels it's ridiculous. I was hoping for the cream colored version instead, but it's good to have a shirt as dark as the humor.

AS I pointed out, if we'd have called the shirt color Flesh instead of Cream, people would have eaten it up.

I'm so glad to see that this design won. I thought it was a great take on the theme and really clever.

As for the comments about how lyons is being disrespectful with this design...what occurred with the Donner Party is a well-known part of American history (unless your history teachers are keeping the darker stories like this from you or if they're unqualified Mortimers) and because of this notoriety, what happened has become the subject of many, many jokes. Lyons is not the first nor will he be the last person to make a Donner Party joke and he shouldn't be subjected to the harsh criticism. Everyone has their own standards for determining what's funny, and you may not agree with this being a funny shirt, but don't act like he's committing a grave sin by designing this shirt.

Awesome design and joke!

I will be ordering one for next week's "Long Pork" BBQ!!!

Sheesh, back off all you h8rs!

ALMOST all jokes make fun of something / someone, at their expense... That's why people joke. SOme things are so bad that you have to laugh, or else you'd cry.

Here's a challenge... how 'bout all the people that said "disgusting" post their favorit FUNNY joke, which doesn't make fun of someone? Trust me it'll be tough.

2 of the funniest jokes I ever heard (and was repeating within days of the events):

1. Did you hear about the new drink called the Osama? Its made with 2 shots and a splash of water!

2. As Farah Fawcett lay on her death bed, She told Ryan O'Neal that her dying wish was that all the children in the world would be safe. 3 hours later, Michael Jackson died!

and so on...

So... let me get this straight. You didn't understand the shirt, so you looked it up, and then you decided to find it offensive.
(No, I didn't misspeak-- when you're offended by something, you are making a conscious choice to be offended by it.)

I really don't think you're in a position to pass judgement about this shirt when you had to look it up on Wikipedia to have a freaking clue what was going on in the first place!

I'm no expert, but I do know that humor relies on previous experience in order to actually be funny. When somebody tells you a joke, and you have to ask them to explain it to you, is it still funny? Of course not! (And in my opinion, that analogy is a lot closer than your far-flung 9/11 reference.)

Incorrect sir! I am allowed to have an opinion whether I had to look it up or not!

I am sure there are people that don't understand, look it up then chuckle. I am not one of them. Instead, I looked it up and thought it was horribly disgusting. (and don't put words in my mouth. You don't know me. You don't know what I was/am thinking). I didn't complain about it being in the derby because it fit the theme. I don't think it is an awful awful shirt. I do think it is a bit of poor taste and I would never buy it or wear it.

Someone previous asked why vampire wine was ok, but people don't like this shirt. I provided that explaination to where you are jumping to conclusions and think that I don't have a right to an opinion. (WRONG)

I just don't find tragedies funny. Sorry, not gonna change my mind. I wouldn't find a Titanic shirt funny either or name any other tragedy, still not funny to me.

Oh wait, I'm sorry, according to you I'm not allowed to have an opinion. I retracted all my previous statements.
