Re: Growing Up

Great job here, you've really kept the negative spaces very uniform. Awesome job and great illustration!

edgrrrzzmom wrote:I love your designs, but they're both on such dark backgrounds you can't really see them well. Either use a lighter colored line or a lighter colored shirt.

Thanks! I will resub the blue with a lighter color after work today. It didn't look nearly as dark on my monitor as it does on my phone. Is there another color combo you would like to see?

lyonscc wrote:I almost exclusively use Illustrator for my designs. In this case, I laid out the design with vector lines (set at a few different widths, 4.5 points and higher, so all would be at least 1/16"), using a few different layers to organize them.

Next, I expanded all of the lines, along with using divide, unite and subtract front/back, to eliminate the overlaps, and then slowly went through close-up to join everything together and smoothly adjust some of the widths (and solve a few connectivity issues).

In summary, it was an in-depth exercise in the use of Illustrator's "expand", "pathfinder" and "add/subtract point" functions.

Wow. You must have a very organized brain to be able to create something like this. If you ever do a video demo/tutorial on this concept, let me know. Good luck in the derby!

Don't go swimming.
My mind is a strange place.

llamassassin wrote:You may still be at risk for rejection because of the little dot at the end. :/ I don't know if they'll enforce it or not, but last time they ran this theme they were very strict about it, and the rules say no filled shapes. You might fix that real quick while this one is still low on votes. Well, I say low on votes lightly because it already has much more than me...But you know. :P Low votes for you.

omarfeliciano's "Can I Keep It" currently in the fog also has a dot in it (the boy's right hand).

I think the powers that be will probably overlook a dot at the endpoints.

I assume when you say "actually draw these" you really mean "hand draw on paper" ?

The final work is usually done in Photoshop or Illustrator, but artists have different methods, such as drawing directly in the program on a blank canvas, or sketching it out by hand first and following that, or scanning it into the program and refining it from there, or drawing by hand on a tablet, etc.

*votes* It has a nice wispy look to it.

Took this from a photo we took of this little Pacific Tree Frog. He was peeking out of the garden in the backyard. I think this design would make a cool brooch as well.

Re: Digitization

You may want to submit this with a new detail pic - Woot rejects any that have extraneous text (like "click here...") - they used to allow it, but it got out of hand so they banned it.

I like it, and I'm going to vote for it. But the rejectionator may think this is pushing the boundaries of what a line is.
