These comments are absurd. The lack of a second wing was an obvious flaw. If the wings were decaying, then fine. Maybe have part of a wing there or something. But there wasn't a wing at all and defending that fact is senseless.

I don't have an issue with the shirt color either, but I would recommend a darker ink color. The faded one here just doesn't give enough contrast to stand out against the vibrant red

It's really hard to tell from the picture, but I fear your entry might have the same problem as Skirochester's One Mans Trash where pencil drawings, even when converted to b&w, can't be printed in one color well, as it looks like it has multiple colors of gray ranging from the dark shadow to the light part of the skull and candle. I could of course be wrong

You're being deliberately nit-picky. Most of these entries are done on a computer, there's no way you could GET a one-color entry submitted electronically without work done on it through a computer.

I read hand-drawn and interpret it as not using brushes that imitate cross-hatching, but there were entries in the last cross-hatch derby that used such brushes and so I don't see a problem with it myself.

Unfortunately, looks like those brushes gave the rejectionator the feeling that it was just a photo-filter. Tough luck Lyonscc

I think you missed the point. A mere 30 loyal regulars won't get you into the fog. 50 loyal regulars won't get you into the fog. What it WILL get you, combined with early submission, is early visibility. If you have a good design, early visibility will help get the word out, it may also likely show up near the top of the page before more than 9 entries are submitted, or be in the "recent votes" sidebar after it gets pushed down the page.

Have you considered submitting shirts as dailies? (ie, not in the derby) You may also consider looking into some of the other shirt submission sites, such as threadless or, um, [that one I forgot the same of which starts with an 'S']

Participating in the pre-derby threads can help too, there are always people willing to comment and make suggestions for potential designs, plus you get a little bit of early recognition ("oh hey, he changed X, yeah that was a good move") from people who noticed your design in the thread

This needs to be on a shirt template. You probably still have time to take this down, and resubmit without text on a shirt. If that doesn't work for you, you can submit the fixed version under a new name.

It seemed to me like you were going for a certain style with this design. I don't know what it's called, but I see it in a lot of contemporary illustrations; doll-like girls with round eyes and kind of creepy, vacant expressions. It looks a bit like "the corpse bride" style, but painted instead. Well, hopefully you know what I mean.

This is really nicely done orabbit. If this doesn't work you can do a simpler one using the standard carry on layout with a condor instead of a crown love the play on words

I have one complaint, and that's towards the blockiness of the design. The meteors lend a box-like shape to the image and that's not a good thing. Aside from that, it's really cool, and a good choice of color.

Terry Pratchett's insurpassable Captain Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch answers the question with, "We watch each other."
