It's kind of like sexing a hamster. You can only tell if you look really close, or if one of them starts popping out babies.

Y'know I think I'd like this design if it were just a bit more dramatic.

:p

Awesome work, gmv!

Re: Hamadryad

Once again ladies a truly stunning piece. I like the placement with the slightly off to one side look. Gives the work a more whimsical and fantasy feel to it. I have some art that is a similar feel to it that I have framed and hung on the wall. I hope this prints so that I can wear one of my favorite styles of art. Well done.

Re: Red Panda

Love it. Red pandas are my absolute favorite animal and I loved this design the moment I saw it.

I didn't have an issue with the shirt color - felt it was the best choice given the subject matter and constraints of the derby.

Re: Dreamcatcher

I love the shirt, too. And this is one of those rare moments when I don't have the concern expressed above because I've had the highly mixed blessing of a mastectomy on the appropriate side. I think the artist deserve some extra points!

How do you do that?!

I look at the shirts. Find the favorite one. I click "I'd want one." Then I click through to read/make comments AND IT IS ALWAYS A PATRICKSPENS SHIRT. HOW!?!!

Great technique. This has a very clean look- sometimes crosshatching can look a bit messy.

Sometimes you work so close on a piece that you don't notice things.

I agree she looks surprised, lol. Maybe she is? I didn't think that at first, though.

It seemed to me like you were going for a certain style with this design. I don't know what it's called, but I see it in a lot of contemporary illustrations; doll-like girls with round eyes and kind of creepy, vacant expressions. It looks a bit like "the corpse bride" style, but painted instead. Well, hopefully you know what I mean.

lyonscc wrote:Sorry - I missed it.

If by "hand drawn", you mean done in Illustrator with brushes, vectors and non-halftone techniques, yes. Some of my brushes were made via scanning in ink-hatches.

I believe by "hand drawn" he means "drawn by hand", in other words, without the use of a computer. The derby rules clearly state "Just draw 'em!". They are looking for hand drawn designs.

I understand this might not be the exact photo you used to create your design but please try to keep your designs original (without altering another artists work).
