I spend a lot of time staring at screens. Monitors. TVs. Phone.

You probably do, too.

And as an insightful bunch, you’ve probably noticed that a lot of things happen when you’re not staring at a screen. Good, bad, poignant, silly... but remarkable regardless.

So. A place on the internets to commemorate the things we experienced while we were away from the internets.

Hi Pember,
For some reason my eyes are not making sense of you photo (being legally blind has nothing to do with it I'm sure) would you please explain why the photo makes you say Mother Nature has a sense of humor? Thanks in advance for being my eyes!

disappointing? nature? the same marvel that brought us the kangaroo?! the octopus?! sand dunes?! no, i think not. i suppose if you see a caterpillar every day, it's not very interesting, but i do not. so for me, it was a neat little thing to behold.

anyway, on topic:

while afk, i embraced the value of tire alignment.

while afk, i realized that i should never, ever, ever yawn in front of other people.

while afk, i rediscovered the unbridled pleasure of a philly cheesesteak (with cheez whiz, the way god intended).

I was hoping to get a clue while reading the posts, but no luck. So I have to ask, what's the "k" for?

While AFK yesterday I learned that some people actually slow down for green lights in intersections as if they are hoping it will change yellow so they can stop or something.

Infuriating!

Not really. My youngest sister was born at Ft Lewis while we lived in Burien. I will be in that neck of the woods next week.

Why do you think it's a pity?

Legend (before the internets) says that the width of the brown band on these silly looking fuzzy caterpillars (Wooly Bear Caterpillars) will predict the upcoming winter. The wider the band, the more mild. Looks like you'll have a semi-harsh winter. Where do you live?

I saw something today that was odd. As soon as I remember what it was, I'll post it.

"away from keyboard"

Not today, but I spent the last two days reading a book, freshly printed on dead trees.

Does this count?
Well, no, because I'm at the computer...but...

The kid across the street is doing lawn work in his school uniform.

He could NOT look more bored.

Really odd part is...there is a kid that age in that house???
I only knew of a kid who should be in college now.
Where the hell did this high school age kid come from???

Son is home. Took the day off before the LSAT.
He knew the name of the older kid, but never saw this kid.

Gee, maybe some day we should talk to them. Not sure the parents are comfortable speaking english, which is way we know nothing about a family that has lived here maybe 15 years or more.

While AFK I learned that I still know tons of useless trivia...

Them: Excuse me do you know who the other chipmunks in Alvin and the Chipmunks are?

I know there were a couple other random trivia things, can't recall them.
