College. It's a magical time of growth, personal development, sexual experimentation and binge drinking. Oh, and learning. Learning happens too, we've heard. So this week, show us your best take on the classic university tees. Maybe you've got a kooky mascot to cheer on, maybe you're inventing your own seal of higher learning or whatever they call it, complete with Latin. Maybe it's just a shirt encouraging people to go back to school. Either way, let's see what you've got!

This week's special Guest Editor is fishbiscuit5!

  • STOP using proper nouns from existing creative works. We're not going to print your "Gallifrey Technical College" or "Dr. Horrible University" design. Be original for once.
  • No text only designs. You must have a graphical element.
  • No real colleges. Make up your own.
  • No Mario, Doctor Who, Zelda, or Schrödinger.

Here's my idea:

I may make it a little less obviously alcohol oriented and more red solo cup dependent. I like the idea of having the crest crackling and falling apart, and having the leaves on the ivy vines dead.

Oh, and i'll fix the Latin, but I'm gonna use Pig Latin for "Party On Dude"

I have a feeling this derby will be rife with "similar shirts exist" rejections.

I hope artists take a few minutes to run a few searches before spending time crafting a design. Not only can they avoid wasting their time, but then we can avoid a derby where every other comment is about unoriginality.

Anyone have any feedback on this?

Do you intend the latin to be 'out of one, many' rather than the traditional 'out of many, one?' If so, the latin for that would be e uno plures.

I find it funny that we finally have a banned subject that is science based and not a blatant meme-related ban.

Thanks! I was looking for help on that phrase. I've also found Ex uno plures in the meantime. Is this also accurate?

Funny, but "your mom goes here" isn't so good. Maybe a pun like "sew educational" or something.

I actually really liked the "Your mom goes here" part. I can see how others might not like that, but I think that would be the selling point for me.

Also, I can't believe Harry Potter isn't on the list of no-nos.

Is there a Heather Grey option? I didn't see it on the color sheet, but I figured I'd double check anyways since it's kind of perfect for college tees

Hmmm... definitely didn't get that, although I only saw the movie once years ago. Disregard my comment.

I didn't get Napolean Dynamite at all. Maybe add some details from the movie or a mountain or something in the background. You could also try a play on words with "Alma Mater" maybe "Your Mom's Alma Mater" or something like that

Don't take the "low hanging fruit" of woot shirt ideas!

But yea, we all know someone is gonna do it.

Dang. Those "low hanging fruit" ideas tend to get lots of high flying votes., too.

But I am hoping we get something really creative from someone...

Nice. I'd like to see some funny or fake roman numerals in the blank spots on the banner. OU812? THX1138? I don't know. I'm not feeling funny today.

edit- maybe CDXX for 420?

You should do it if you really want, though! I won't judge. It's ok, just draw the most beautiful flying penguin ever.

Yeah, that's actually better--it's ex for words beginning with vowels and e for words beginning with consonant.

I doubt woot will print this. They sell kids shirts as well as adult sizes, and this will NOT sell well in the smaller sizes.

While Star Wars is allowed in this derby, the logo is patented, and woot may not be able to print it. Is there another way you can do this? (I'm sure Klingon is allowed).

Damn I was worried about that. I mean it's just a butt, but I guess "smartasses" could be offensive too. Also though, what about the booze related designs (I have one of those also)? Those are obviously not suitable for children?
