This would be spiced up so much more with some manner of halftones on the background. The characters fit in quite well here. Soft, subtle, but the background is too visually aggressive in comparisson. :3

Mosaic seems like a bad choice here. (Makes it seem far naughtier than it actually is.) Perhaps the penguin holding a wine tray in front of him would be less visually jarring, or something else to that extent.

No problem! I want to do a few more fox themed entries as well. I limited myself to foxes this week in order to challenge and restrict my options. Your suggestion was a perfect start.
I wanted to keep everything flat, rather storybook. If I have time, I might see how the contrast between the flat characters and a well halftones background plays.

I apologize, I meant gradients with the background as in having the background fade out into the shirt color rather than having solid edges. Not specifically gradients inside the background. :3

Like, the flat works great for the characters in this instance. But the background doesn't need to be so blocky/solid.

Both so far are great interpretations of "Animals as People" ;D
