Once upon a time, there was a little website run by cats. In their early days, they had the formula for success; they sold lots of shirts. And lots and lots of shirts.

But then one day, despite six months of warning, the little website forgot about a pesky annual phenomenon. Instead of hanging around for an extra hour, looking all adorable n' stuff, the website forged ahead, bending space and time to their will. This unexpected obstacle - they have to hear this - made the website look somewhat incompetent. Believe it or not, they dream of competing with the Big Warriors, but they still have much to learn.

What will this week bring in the life of the cats? Will they be thrown out, recycled, recatted? Will they need to look for new jobs, head back to school to discover the meaning of life, be so embarrassed they move to Middle Earth? Will the stress be enough to induce workplace violence or comfort eating or even more comfort eating? Will they be eaten by comfort food? Can they calculate their survival? Did Woot forget daylight savings? Not complaining because this is much more convenient for the East Coast.

I will complain, though, in that I was coming to buy Shhhhhhh. Oh well, I had 41 weeks to get it done. Here's to procrastination. Oh, here too.

I just signed on to purchase a shirt or two before they disappeared and they are gone an hour early. This is almost as disappointing and not having monkeys end a woot-off.

I've got my fingers crossed. I have slowed way down on purchases since the blank changed but my son has got this Penguin fetish going on and I was finally going to get it for him along with a back up Shhhhhhhh!

Reckoning occurring an hour early not so cool Woot. I was already sad we were saying farewell to Robbie Lee's "Shhhh." Now I found it snuck out early? Ninja to the end I guess...

O woot, I am disappoint.

Just wanted to reiterate this. Along with the issue with the lack of inventory, it's been a major OUCH for the artists and Woot ... but especially the artists.

Just a heads up... I'm pretty sure Forty-Two U's baseline number was ~3944... I'll double check this when I am off work. Not that I am typing this from work. Nope.

Less than 50 days until Christmas and I feel so sad for all the artists with Royal Blue shirts. So many empty stockings that could have held a child-sized woot shirt. Maybe some elves somewhere can come help. Calling all shirt elves...... respond immediately to this woot-emergency!!!!!

(Also sad for those artists not able to sell Slate shirts in MXL. Perhaps the elves can help them, too.)

I think the lack of sizes for children in the royal blue and the slippage of Nevermore might possibly make this a brutal reckoning.

Not being able to backorder them right now is having quite a negative effect, as it's apparent with the four royal blue offerings around the line, inclusive of Woot's all-time #1 best seller.

I'd love to find a page where every shirt shirt.woot was still selling was listed. The reckoning lets me know what is going to be unavailable soon... but since I only visit the site occasionally, I currently have to look through the blog and see what's still for sale. That sucks. Consolidate so I can give you money faster, please.

I wonder how many of those shirts are in the reckoning because sales numbers are off line?

Monday-Thursday, all shirts for sale are contained on two pages; Thursday-Sunday, all shirts for sale are contained on three pages.

The Reckoning page displays all of the shirts that woot currently has for sale, except for the shirts being sold in the limited-run Woot Plus sales. To see what shirts are available in the Woot Plus sales, go to the main shirt.woot.com page and scroll down until you see the Woot Plus sales and click on those links.

I come back from a week out in the field and see that the woot world has gone crazy. The Binge at #18-19? They still haven't figured out the blue blank shortage? The third oldest shirt gets reckoned an hour early?

Maybe the Mayans were right after all...

I'm afraid Monster Cookie is going to get reckoned before its' time since there are no royal blue kid shirts! What a shame - it's a cute design!

Edit: Wait.... on the 'All Designs' page, Royal Blue shirts are being offered in kids sizes but NOT on the 'Top 20' page?? Has something not been updated where it should have been??

Edit number two: Apparently Royal Blues are still on back order and the 'all designs' was incorrect. Too bad :-(

I was still able to get to the Reckoning from the graphical link below today's shirt.

The past reckonings feature seems to be broken. Hitting the one-back link gave me the same page. Manually editing the reckoning number back by 5 or 10 or 50 also gave me the same page, though the URL stayed as I typed it.

I'm really not sure I like this change. It's kind of neat to be able to buy any old shirt again, but it really kills what made Woot kind of special and cool, and totally changes the model they built. They seem just like any old shirt site now.

The Reckoning has been reckoned, and the shirt.woot world will never be the same.

I've been hoping for a long time they'd rename the page Top 20 just so new people would know where to find the good stuff.

The reckoning still exists, just as a weekly verby instead of a noun.

I STILL love the Reckoning (top 20) and love to see how my designs are doing and will check it often. I've always loved to see your math work here, and it has impressed (and even at times mystified) me.

Thank you, Nathan. Your post brought a tear to my eye. I'm so glad that the number-crunchers' work has been helpful to the artists and the community.

On a personal note, I'm currently sitting next to Narfcake, huddled under a shared blanket. The nightly numbers had an impact on our lives far beyond any statistical metric. It's odd that the thing responsible for introducing us is suddenly obsolete only a few months later.
