Interesting take on the theme this week Fu.

Maybe that's because she is trying to pretend being a superheroine and the posse it's a little forced like it was in comic books

Mavyn wrote:I like the design, but I think it's a stretch for being on theme. The design is of a fairy-no 'N' there. If you'd included other 'non-existent' things, like unicorns and Santa, then perhaps the concept would come through. Without the title, though, it doesn't show the derby theme.

Thanks so much cherrybear(like the name!)! I don't think it has much chance, but we can hope!

thehookshot wrote:Voted!

It's a great design jasneko! Simple illustration that is really effective. Shame it's not getting more votes. It seems cats rule at shirt.woot (something I guess anyone here could tell me).

Much thanks thehookshot. Haha well I have a cat design in this derby as well and it's not ruling either;)

As I said, I like the design. If it were printed, I'd get one for the 6 yo, because she wouldn't see 'nonexistent', she'd see a fairy and she adores fairies. She knows they aren't real, and likes them anyway.

Radscoolian wrote:It is fairly straight forward.
In screen printing, you want to print darker colors on top of lighter colors to get good coverage. With that in mind I painted blue on the layer above yellow.
then, on a new 50% opacity layer, using the same blue, painted on top the yellow.
Same deal the the red- on a new 50% opacity layer, using red, I painted on top the blue.

...

it's also worth noting that I had all of the layers for the puddle in a group with a layer mask the shape of the puddle. That way I didn't have worry about how the colors overlapped and could work pretty quickly.

Thanks a lot for that. I tried doing a nyan cat design in a similar fashion with the halftones, but they looked nowhere near as crisp as yours. I might have to go back and try again with those tips in mind.

Color blending is always a pain for me, so I wonder if it's a matter of not overlaying them right (or also picking hues that don't blend right)

Thanks again!

The colour scheme for this is incredibly vibrant and deep, and the design itself is beautifully balanced, referenced, and just plain beautiful. You absolutely have my vote now and my purchase if (WHEN!) it prints.

(It also helps that I've found out that I'm a quarter Norwegian and so am totally going for the whole "I'm a badass Norse Viking and I'm gonna superficially embrace my irrelevant ethnic background so haaaard, Eff Yeah!1!!" kind of silly thing. Your design fulfills my need for gorgeous cultural validation things.)

Hah, I'm even worse! I'm only 1/8 Swedish and I swear I feel the call of the ancient Norse!

It's totally not all in my head!
