Re: When the Cat's Away, the Mice will Play

Woah, clever! Well executed. I totally saw the cat at first glance then almost immediately saw the mice too.

Love the tessellation. Definitely a subtler side of Escher's work that is no less awesome.

Thanks! I loved the theme this week-

Not sure if either of my designs are very t-shirty though...

-> Next week I will work on more wearable designs.

Re: Underground

This is really nice, Collin! The birds in the tree turning from negative into positive space is my favorite part. I think you could make a design with just that tree and it would still be really sweet. The design is still awesome with everything else in it as is, of course.

Re: Escher Fruits

Sorry, I saw this design when I was on my phone and it was easier to hit "want one" than post - this design is fantastic on several levels. Still lifes are such a tradition in art and I always enjoy seeing still lifes in various styles; it's almost a way to compare apples to oranges across styles (horrible pun intended ). This combines still life with Escher with graphic design with t-shirt design: it's meta-awesome! (I also love the colors; it seems like many of the designs at woot use full-saturation colors, but the reduced intensity (is that the right phrase? I can't remember) is striking, as well as very reminiscent of traditional still lifes.

Re: Growth on Tessellation

I'll tell you- This is very cool and I love the design of it... however, I think it would work better in a different composition or layout on the shirt itself... perhaps more wispy and less boxy.
-maybe even just taking up a side.

gaelvin wrote:Thanks... it's how Escher played with optical illusions and perspectives that made me think of combining a chess board with the cube illusion. It seemed to fit with his aesthetic really well.

I think you did a great job. What's really cool as I look at it is the fact that the way I view the cube changes depending entirely on the direction of the chess piece I'm looking at.

Thank you, oakenspirit. The woven tessellation took too much time and I ended up rushing to get it submitted. Maybe I'll have to rework it in the future.

It is mainly an effort to put my wife's suggestions into play. It is difficult realizing someone elses vision.

Don't get me wrong. Its a nice design and I really dog how clean it is. GMV -also... I know the time crunch AND the bringing wife's idea to life stress... heh.

Don't worry, oakenspirit, I am not offended by constructive criticism. Especially from an experienced artist.

An aside... I find it the most difficult translating design into multiple softwares and have something usable spit back out at me. I like the Corel Draw suite but, it might be time to look elsewhere. It's been frustrating me lately I think I need a drawing tablet thing.
