runnerfrog13 wrote:Nicely done tesselation, I especially like the shape and design of that whale.

I think they lose some of their impact by being so small on the shirt and repeated in such a large patch, it would be nicer if there were, say, half as many objects but twice as large so they are easier to see. Tesselations are so easily recognizeable thanks to Escher that it would be clear that's what it is, I think.

Those black fish also really fade into the black shirt. Perhaps that is by design, after all many of escher's tesselations started on white and ended black, but for a shirt I would almost pick a third color to be the background and keep the fish black (or make the fish a color and the shirt black). My perception might just be because of the small size of each object though on the shirt comp not showing detail

Thank you so much for the input, yea I agreed with the size issue. Just revise it and resub the bigger version.

Re: Reflections

Love the design! But hate white shirts... I am conflicted. Although im not really sure if this could work on another color. The only thing that comes to mind would be a green. Possibly to give it a bit of a spring feel. But hey, its just one mans opinion =]

Re: Impossibly Delicious

Edit: thanks to the posters who responded to my concern that this was "too similar" to another design by pointing out that this is the donut from The Simpsons, explaining the similar colors to another design.

orabbit wrote:I believe that's still considered text. Escher was known to draw unadorned dodecahedrons and such, so it still works for me, although the D&D angle is less obvious.

Would this work better as a Daily? I feel like it's an amazing representation of Escher's work - and really well-done - and will probably do very, very well in the Derby... but would it sell better in the long-run with a more obvious D&D angle? Of course, that would involve being picked as a Daily...

On the plus side, if it prints out of the Derby, the chances that reddit will vectorize it are lower than if it had the text.

Re: 2001: An Escher Odyssey

Alrighty - stayed up most of the night working on a new astronaut and planetscape.

The Sun and planetscape were done primarily in DAZ Bryce (with some Photoshop manipulation to warp it behind my astronaut), the astronaut was done primarily with my Wacom tablet, Illustrator, and some touch-up work in Photoshop (to use the variable brush, which I'm still trying to get a hang of). And the whole thing was assembled in Photoshop, with halftone work split between Illustrator and Photoshop at 30 LPI.

And now for some sleep.

Re: Chess-scher

I've always liked how Escher played with optical illusions. Here's my attempt at an Escher-esque design... somehow, chess pieces seem to fit with his aesthetic.

Well you see a picture is worth a thousand words...

So he could be depressed be cause he is only a reflection of what was... or maybe his girlfriend dumped him and this is actually the puddle of his tears that captured his soul in the reflection... or maybe he is no good at hunting and so he is staring longingly into the trees wishing he could catch a bird...

Why do you think he is depressed?

Inspired by Escher's "Rind", his sense of the absurd and a bit of wordplay of course
