Re: Jo/Laurie was my OTP but...

Cute! But... didn't really like the font... and the words... perhaps something like... handwritten "Jo <3 Bhaer" in crayons??

I think that Monty Python still qualifies as pop culture.

I don't know.

My literary side says: "it is a lovely depiction that effortlessly encapsulates the feel of Mr. Poe's classic poem."

My graphic design side says: "excellent composition; simple yet highly effective; nice use of the classic black/white/red color palette."

My consumer side says: "Shut up and take my money!"

...in other words, well done!

Thanks!

Re: Black Beauty

I really like the looseness of the artwork. Not fussy, not totally structured, like it could all disappear in a wild flurry of sparks.

For what it's worth, it also reminds me of The Black Stallion, though those books were published much later. Fire imagery (and names like Firetail and Bonfire) figures into several of the books.

An attempt at parody it may be, but the fact remains that the artwork is stolen, not original.

OTP may be considered a modern cultural reference. I'd steer clear of "<3" for the same reason

Winnie the Pooh first appeared in a poem in 1924, so this does not fit the pre-1920 rule.
