Odysseyroc, I love this. There's a crispness to the typography that suggests advertising logos; it really works here.

You can name it whatever you like, but as usual it's a good idea when referencing something that you include a mention of it in your title, the detail image, or in your comments so we know what we're looking at (unless it's a painfully obvious reference that is.)

You're completely right and I apologize; I'm sure I read that post, but I didn't internalize it. I was actually grateful for the original rule because I tend to miss references and I was looking forward to having them spelled out for me, so I remembered having that thought but forgot about the clarification!

Part of what I love about this design is the background in the oval: is raven silhouetted against the moon? is the oval the view through binoculars? is the light source a city and there's commentary about urbanization, or could it be a spotlight outside a rural home, someone fearing a visit from the raven and standing watch? If the design were on white, the choices about the background would be more difficult, I think (how far to extend it?) and it would leave fewer questions for the viewer, IMHO.

I absolutely adore this. Woot doesn't seem to like dogs as much as it likes cats, but I love the combination of adorable puppy with what is a profound observation on realities of life and how often we are dragged along by/with others' choices. If this were a poster, I would definitely put it up in my office!

In the pre derby thread we also discovered that the filter will change the name of this particular book to something silly anyway, so it doesn't really matter that the full title isn't correct ;)
