This shirt does seem infused with calm, rather than a storm of harpooning. But is the whale dreaming the ship or the ship dreaming the whale? I've always wondered, but never enough to read it. Captains Courageous for me.

Like Poe? Of course you do, you're here ; ) Try my new mystery novel:

It did print

I even have it in my closet. (AA version)

that was fun while it lasted!

I have completely failed to find the hidden pencil joke in this shirt so I assume it must not exist and this would be safe for kids. Not my kids, but you know, some kid I suppose.

Ah, I stand corrected. Sorry. Though I think it's still okay considering it's the same artist?

Why am i not surprised, yet amused, that the first purchasers were all from Massachusetts????
They get all the wales there!!!

I think it's okay too. If this shirt were on AA, i'd buy it for a mini series of whale shirts by the artist.

Kind of like the unstealthiest ninja series.

that was fun while it lasted!

By the placement of the moon, I'd guess this would be Sailor Moon's pet whale. You know, if Sailor Moon had taken place under water.

Now I'm curious, which one was the first shirt.woot shirt then? Assuming the artist's bio is accurate. this time.

Oooh, yeah. I like the idea that it might be the same whale that's plagued by all kind of nuisance humans. Though the whale in this shirt doesn't seem to be distressed.

This design makes me smile; the whale looks so satisfied!

I love that geekfactor has a whale series going; that's just awesome.

I don't understand. This was third? It had 89 votes. Didn't even make the fog of war. Third should be the secret garden.

The rules for Derby wins changed a while back, first to this:

"The winning shirt design will be sold on the site the very next day, while our art directors' pick and the guest editor's choice will be sold on Saturday and Sunday, respectively..."

And more recently, they changed again to this, though the change doesn't take affect until the current Derby's (#290: New Secret Societies) winners:

"And a change to the selection of winners: We will now sell the 2nd place finisher in the vote on Saturdays and our Editor's Choice pick on Sundays. We're eliminating the Guest Editor pick. Thanks to everybody who served - we just wish there were more of you."

Thanks! I've also drawn whales chilling on the beach, on a Woot bag, eating pizza, fencing, and, uh, eating divers.

I didn't expect to see this one print tonight, so thanks so much to Shirt.Woot for making it happen! What an awesome surprise :D

I know the secret! Hidden in this design are 15 Ahabs, 7 Ishmaels, and 2 Polynesian harpoonists! You might have a hard time finding them though, as they are hidden behind the ninjas...

You can't change the rules, I love this design and would never have a chance without the guest pick.

Great timing, I just finished reading Moby pencil on Thursday.

The illustration seems pretty accurate, at least the ship's got three masts just like the Pequod...

I am utterly confused, this wasn't on the list of winning contenders for the derby.

Wasn't Moby pencil a white whale?

Why does woot change the last name of the whale to pencil? You can put the word in the title of the shirt but not in the comments?? This makes my pencil soft.

And sales are now 860?
Sold 400 shirts overnight?
huh?

I have a shirt catalog, y'all!

Congrats, MJ! I believe this might just be the first shirt here to outsell its own debut day's sales on day #2.

From the watching sales and sales percentages change in the past hour, I'm pinpointing 417 as its debut day sales.

Hmm, that's really odd. Was the first day number inaccurate? I didn't look until ~12:30AM woot time when I noticed that the last post in the thread wasn't from TheGolux.

Did an email go out to a pencil fan club?

My stats link showed 420 sales for day one, if it helps

edit: Looks like kevlar51 solved the sales mystery- it's combining sales with the Snowball's Chance in Hell for some reason!
