Staff

Whether you dream of smothering baby Hitler or betting on the '69 Mets to win it all, who hasn't dreamed of jumping around the timestream? This week those dreams take t-shirt form. Maybe yours will be a time-travel souvenir tee like the ones from way back in Derby #15: Time Travel Souvenirs. Maybe it'll be a one-panel gag about Cro-Magnons at the mall or Renaissance skinheads. Maybe it'll blow our minds with some other idea from beyond tomorrow. But it will follow these rules or collapse all of existence into a time paradox:

No Doctor Who, Back to the Future, or Bill & Ted. Dig a little deeper this week, guys.

No cranberry tees.

No text-only designs.

Just imagine if they were to ban dinosaurs this week, too. There would only be like 4 or 5 entries!

It's this really flavorful drink, kinda bitter, but goes great with a turkey sandwich on rye!

Cranberry refers to the color of the tee.

Or the tart beverage. Or that wobbly stuff from a can.

Dang, I'm thirsty now. Well, I think it's safe to say I wont be making a cranberry tee for this derby. ;)

I don't think Stargate is time travel so much as space travel to a planet where people never advanced past ancient Egypt. I didn't really get into the series though, so I could be wrong.

And why steampunk Mario when you have all those Zelda designs with the time travel built right in?

google tells me stargate had an episode involving time travel, wherein a character stuck in a time loop ate fruit loops over and over again.

[nerd]

Yeah Stargate had time travel, if the wormhole between gates happened to be intercepted by a solar flare. I believe Carter or McKay or somebody figured how to do this at will after it happened by accident once.

[/nerd]

But who doesn't have time travel these days?

Seriously, that sounds like shark-jumping material.

Who here would buy a shirt with Hitler in a funny situation? Or Hitler as a small part of the design? I just worry the stigma behind him would make people immediately hate it.

What if Bruce Willis got trapped between Looper and Twelve Monkeys?
Paradoxically, would all his other movies cease to exist?
Or conversely, in an alternate parallel universe would he appear in movies that were never made(here), or that he was never cast in, such as Batman, Lincoln, Forest Gump?

IMO.... here is a good idea I came up with for the derby this week.Flattop won't be submitting, so anyone who thinks it is cool... go for it. I am picturing an astronaut holding a brown box, trying to hand it to an alien ( similiar to the alien off of toy story), as a greeting gift. The alien has the bubble above sayig " why, why, why would anyone put a cat in a box ?" idk... this cracks me up ! Anyway it has been fun, for the most part.

I'm working on the graphic elements, but I know Woot can be sensitive about parodies like this. Is it worth completing?

I'm working on the graphic element. The question was whether Woot will accept a corporate logo parody.

Sounds like the basic premise behind the movie Groundhog Day.

An idea I'm hoping someone with artistic talent will run with:

A cat sneaks out of a box with a lid , enters some sort of time warp, places the flask of poison and the radioactive element stolen from his box into one his grandfather as a kitten is sleeping in. Whereupon he returns to the present and slips back into the original box.

Thus combining the classic time travel paradox with the paradox of Schrödinger's cat.

To Wit: If the radioactive element put in the grandfather's box decayed, releasing the poison and killing him, then Schrödinger's cat could not have been born to commit this feat. Yet, if the grandfather got out of the box before the poison was released, he'd be alive, and so would his grandson as the random death trap was no longer in his box.

But this still leaves one unanswered question: How would Schrödinger's cat be able to carry a flask of poison and a radioactive substance out of a box undetected, through a time warp, locate his feline grandfather, and plant the two substances inside his box without opposable thumbs?

Irony!

And I'm surprised no one mentioned Terminator.

Could have the Governator going back in time to stop himself from making Twins.
