Love the design, but then I think about the poor whale and get sad.

It is important to note that suddenly, and against all probability, a sperm whale had been called into existence, several miles above the surface of an alien planet. But since this is not a naturally tenable position for a whale, this innocent creature had very little time to come to terms with its identity. This is what it thought as it fell: ‘Ahhh! Whoa! What’s happening? Who am I? Why am I here? What’s my purpose in life? What do I mean by ‘who am I’? Okay, okay, calm down, calm down, get a grip now. Ooh, this is an interesting sensation. What is it? It’s a sort of a tingling in my… well, I suppose I better start finding names for things. Let’s call it a… tail! Yeah! Tail! And hey, what’s this roaring sound, whooshing past what I’m suddenly gonna call my head? Wind! Is that a good name? It’ll do. Yeah, this is really exciting! I’m dizzy with anticipation! Or is it the wind? There’s an awful lot of that now, isn’t it? And what’s this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ‘Ow’, ‘Ownge’, ‘Round’, ‘Ground’! That’s it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it’ll be friends with me? Hello Ground!’ … Curiously, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell, was: ‘Oh no, not again.’ Many have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that, we should know a lot more about the nature of the universe than we do now.

Vintage Douglas Adams. If only it was printed on American Apparel. OK, everyone can get back to their lives.

You know, normally if I buy a Woot shirt, I spend a minute or two really pondering it over. Decide if it fits my style, if I'll be amused enough or if it's maybe just a bit too obscure to appreciate normally.

This...not even 5 seconds. Instant buy.

Woo, congrats Orion. I always thought this one would make it.

Using an abstract concept instead of a place name makes this twice as good.

I'm glad that this made into to top 3 in the second attempt. Was sad when it was available the first time round.

I wonder if it will be friends with me?

Would've been an insta-buy on AA. Dammit.

Would probably buy if I didn't already have a Hitchiker's whale off of woot last year.

Hey now - thanks for voting everyone! Matt, I still wonder how 'Part of this complete Slartibartfast' would have done.

I named my new car, a Dodge Dart, SlartiDartfast. I want this shirt.

Can someone hit the infinite improbability drive button so I can get it on an AA shirt? Otherwise, the probability of me owning this shirt is the same as someone making a good movie of the series of books. Or of receiving one in a random shirt buy.

Now if this was on a good quality towel...

Grats O- my wife wrote a poem to celebrate...

"Oh freddled gruntbuggly/thy micturations are to me/As plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee.
Groop I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes. And hooptiously drangle me with crinkly bindlewurdles,
Or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon, see if I don't!"

I love the design, but the text would make my hard core hhgtg friends make fun of me.

Yeah... Crazy night of heavy gargle blasting... woke up married...

At first I was horrified, but coming home to THAT makes the rest of the world seem more beautiful.

I'll give that a half of an "Ah!" I am familiar enough to know '42' but not the who thing with the whale.

Thanks!

the whale and the pot of petunias are what some rockets turn into once the infinite improbability drive is turned on. Pretty much the whole thing is quoted by one of the posters above. It's pretty random and almost insignificant at the time it appears in the book - even though the fact that the pot of petunias thought "oh not again" does bear significance later on...
