Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

How could there not be walnut? Essential for chocolate chip walnut cookies and derby pie.

I agree!

Almonds are more versatile, but I think pecans are my favorite. I'm sort of partial to them not only because of their culinary benefits, but also because we have a pecan tree towering over our house that must be a couple hundred years old.

I believe 'dis' would be the singular of 'deez'?

Pine nut. Close second is pistachio.

Peanut isn't a nut, but a legume. Pistachio isn't a nut, but a drupe. And the list goes on . . . and on! May I suggest a little research before asking such a question?

And yes, I *KNOW* a peanut isn't a nut. But for the given choices it's the only one I'd choose.

I live the way I type, FAST, with a lot of mistakes.

Pecan!

Depends on what for. Roasted and sweetened, pecans or almonds. For cooking, peanuts or pistachios. In cookies, macadamia nuts. As flavoring for a dessert, pistachios. As flavoring in coffee, hazelnuts or almonds. I could go on.

I guess my point is anything but cashews or Brazil nuts.

Lol I saw the poll and immediately was wondering if someone had been that guy yet in the forum. I personally am hard-pressed between peanuts and walnuts. Ever tried walnuts in a salad? MMMmmm.

I think they did their research. Are any of those options actually nuts?

Thing is most of the planet classifies "nuts" based on what is termed culinary nuts. I also had never heard of the word "drupe" before and while I knew that a peanut isn't technically a nut botanically I would hardly consider leaving it off a list of nuts or a container of mixed nuts. It looks like the pistachio is of the same family as a cashew so that also is techinically not a nut, but in the end I say who cares. I prefer pine nuts and pistachios both of which appear to not be true nuts.

From wikipedia: (which looks to prove nothing on the "list" is a true nut afterall)
"Some fruits and seeds that do not meet the botanical definition but are nuts in the culinary sense are:
Almonds are the edible seeds of drupe fruits — the leathery "flesh" is removed at harvest.
Brazil nut is the seed from a capsule.
Candlenut (used for oil) is a seed.
Cashew is the seed[4] of an accessory fruit.
Chilean hazelnut or Gevuina
Macadamia is a creamy white kernel of a follicle type fruit.
Malabar chestnut
Pecan is the seed of a drupe fruit
Mongongo
Peanut is a seed and from a legume type fruit (of the family Fabaceae).
Pine nut is the seed of several species of pine (coniferous trees).
Pistachio is the seed of a thin-shelled drupe.
Walnut (Juglans)"

Pecan.

Also, yeah, peanuts are not nuts. But I'll let pistachios slide.

Not that it matters, of course. Hubs is allergic to tree nuts, so I can't have them either!
