hehe. Nice.

I have some sweet sweet home-made screen print Firefly tees from back in the day. I wish the person who designed them would submit some here, they would sell like hotcakes stuffed with free money. Although hers may have some copyright issues...

What if I would like to get outdoors to enjoy the summer while washing my shirt? Maybe read a book, frye up some burgers, and see a badger or two in their natural habitat?

So long as we don't go out too early, I think that it would be fine.

I want to buy a Serenity t-shirt, but I just can't buy this one.
I can't buy a space penix shirt for my man.

Note to designers: Take a last look at your work from a distance before you submit. Even the most beautiful artwork can not transcend resemblance to anatomy, sadly.

I get the message from all the references in the objects in space above. It's a Woot shindig for the show in our hearts of gold that was bushwhacked in a Fox train job, and though our Serenity was briefly restored, it ran out of gas at the box office

After Joss Whedon went on to Marvel-ous success, a certain high-school sleuth proved you could crowdfund a big damn movie, but Joss has to finish his current war stories before he can take our beloved spaceship off the trash heap. It's still safe to think there may be new works to come. Firefly might yet rise again, like Ariel from the sea.

(Sorry, couldn't pun my way into "Our Mrs. Reynolds" without horribly tortured grammar. Joss made it look so easy in "Once More, With Feeling".)

There's no fight in that dog. The design is not of a ship, it is of a nebula or star forming cloud. What you associate with a Firefly class vessel is the lack of said nebula. There can't be a lawsuit for copyright infringement for something that isn't there.
Additionally, there are enough people with pornographic minds to argue that the lack of nebula isn't really representative of a Firefly class vessel.
It's just your mind's interpretation of an image...the need to associate for categorical reference. As NASA would say, "What you see is a trick of light and shadow."

I really like this design. My wife will love her shirt when it gets here.

Nah. Woot design veteran here- this design has been viewed by thousands (probably tens of thousands) before today. It went viral on Reddit when the designer had first drawn it. No one ever mentioned anything anatomical until a few did today.

That plus the numbers of people buying it make your critique understandable but simply inconsequential.

Your confirmation bias is actually the issue. Here's my favorite book talking about statistics and confirmation bias.

"Chaos, Coincidences, and All That Math Jazz."

Great book. Numbers FTW

I'm wondering about the poor guys packing that in their pants if this reminds a couple of wooters of a penis... Yikes!

I don't know how compelling a business model that is; everything I hear about the project suggests that it kinda sucks due to the very crowdfunding that made it happen. Once you've got thousands of producers who all have their own pet vision of how the plotline should go, you end up pulled in a thousand different directions -- all of them veering away from the original story arcs and the writers' and director's concepts. As one person put it: The whole movie is unavoidably looking like pretty much a series of fanservice moments.

And don't we want a new Firefly series here, and not Serenity II? I for one don't see that happening, nor do I see Joss being able to once again convince Jewel Staite to gain weight for the shooting of an entire series -- and since Kaylee was my favorite character, that would be a continuing disappointment for me, like the cringe I felt every time Gandalf's name was (mis)pronounced in Jackson's LoTR movies.

But ultimately, we'll never see either a rekindled series or another movie, regardless of what magical funding may fall from the sky, because whether the talent can free themselves up or not, there's no way that Whedon can. Just take a look at the continual stream of disappointments we saw for the prospects of Hellboy III.

I know it's Serenity, but it looks like a chicken. And I know that's what everyone, especially non-browncoats will think when they see it.

Thanks for the fascinating conversation, friends. I can truly say that the woot community is the first to identify anything other than Serenity.
