Poll: Favorite Shakespeare play:

  • 7.3% - Othello 56
  • 19.4% - Hamlet 149
  • 19% - Romeo and Juliet 146
  • 35.3% - *pushes glasses up nose* Umm, Shakespeare wrote more than the four plays everyone reads in high school. I'll share my favorite in the comments, thank you very much! 272

Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

The Richards - II and III (but RIII only makes sense if you've read Henry IV-VI).

Julius Caesar for me.

"The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars,
But ourselves, that we are underlings."

Although, Much Ado About Nothing had some great moments too...

I haven't read as many as I should, but when I went to Shakespeare class in high school, I liked "Richard III" the most.

(We also read "Hamlet" and "The Taming of the Shrew." I can't recall a fourth, but I want to say there was one.)

No, I’ll not weep.
I have full cause of weeping, but this heart
Shall break into a hundred thousand flaws,
Or ere I’ll weep. O fool, I shall go mad!

Because the one *I* want on the list isn't there.

The Twelfth Night and Henry V.
I actually like almost all of them...

Best version done on "Moonlighting" -- Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepard at their best. It's a classic must see.

Much Ado About Nothing. For those who do not know, in Elizabethan times the word "nothing" was slang for lady parts.

Not kidding.

Beat me to it! Exactly what I was going to post.

It also happens to be my favorite "original".

Much ado about nothing. The Kenneth Branagh movie version was almost ruined by Keanu Reeves.

I wonder how many of these comments are actually just people mentioning the one other play they know of.

The Merchant of Venice. Primarily, I think, because it was the first one I saw performed live.

Henry V, love the Saint Crispin Day scene.
The film version w/ Kenneth Branaugh was great.

I saw A Midsummers Night's Dream at the Shakespeare's Globe in London. Right up touching the stage where you fear you'll be hit by the actors as they run by. Amazing. Became my top favorite Shakespearian play.

A Midsummer Night's Dream.

I once played the part of Puck/Philostrate.
