Re: Dohnut

Not donut? Or doughnut? What is the significance of the different spelling? I do see a face silhouetted on the right. Does that make the sprinkles into stars in the pink sky with a moon, or am I over-analyzing this?

Is this a reference to "a City upon a hill" from the Sermon on the Mount and the John Winthrop speech?
The silhouette looks like Constantinople with the minarets.
Either way, GMV.

Re: Reverse Tree Space

Thanks for trying this version.
I think the night sky exposed by the tree shows up better here, but the dark image on a light background in the original version looks better.

Very nice, love the idea (and the pun) - but if I can suggest that the lines in the aurora all came down vertically instead of rotating to remain normal to the bear outline?

Inspired by the puzzle game Limbo and (one of my favorite shows) Supernatural. I've wanted to create this design for a long time and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Which technique are you talking about? Halftones?
I tried that on mine and it didn't help. You used it effectively here.

I do papercutting, and this design could be executed that way.
It also looks like it could be done as a laser etching on wood. Do you do something like that?

I say keep it. The comet adds movement and context. Because of the comet, I think the planet is Earth.

I thought about doing some more editing to this one but I had a question... this being only my second entry I am sorry if this gets asked a lot. But you send the .psd for the print ready art correct? I have a 25MB limit to send and this one is 28MB. I sent it via "google drive"(?) Just hoping it still went thru.

Any comments/should/shouldn't haves from the more experienced?

By just looking at it, I can't see why the file would need to be that big. If you have any alpha channels in there, you can probably scrap those to bring down the size.

As far as the design, I do like it more than your first one; colors are better and the design has more to look at. Nice work!

I'd say there's 2 things you can do to make your designs better, though:

1) texture! solid colors are nice, but sometimes you need something more. the sand would look cooler if it had a grainy look to it.

2) Nix the clipart / stock images. I recognize the ship and the chest; generally you work will be more well-received when you make every asset yourself.

Really, just keep practicing, your designs will just naturally improve. Good luck!

I was talking about the negative space, which I'd also used in the Americana derby.

Thank you for complimenting the halftones. I do find them difficult, especially since I'm only using Photoshop Elements, and the only choice for halftones is dots. I think they often look nicer as lines, but one needs more advanced programs to achieve that.

Might as well have a signature now since I have something to put into it.
