It’s a strange world. Draw a photo-realistic werewolf battle and you’ve committed low art, suitable for publication in the letter pages of magazines with names like “Fresh Blood” and “Blood Robot” and “Bloody Fortnight” and “Blood Blood Blood Blood Blood”. Draw it in a loose, abstract manner and they’ll call it Guernica.
Frank Zappa once said that “you can’t always write a chord ugly enough to say what you want to say, so you have to rely on a giraffe filled with whipped cream”. It sometimes takes a detour to properly see the path you are on, even if you chose to never go back to it. But being the outsider is what the monster is all about, right? Except for that fella at the bottom who looks like a bunny rabbit. He gets all the phone numbers he wants.
This shirt was designed by: Jon Burgerman, who is a big name in the world of shirts! Not big in the “Paul Bunyan” way, but big in the “designed the Summer collection for Rip Curl” kind of way. He’s also made a very cute hoodie for Kid Robot and has been one of their featured Dunny artists. He’s like the Damien Hirst of shirts! Except his shirts don’t involve formaldehyde. Strictly casualdehyde with Jon. Did we mention he’s had his first monograph published?
Wear this shirt: to make a deep, passionate statement regarding the socio-political climate at the back table of Starbucks. Even Mao needed a plotting corner.
Don’t wear this shirt: as a skirt or kilt. It would be very daring but the required modifications would completely change the scope of the piece. Like that time Andy Goldsworthy lost at Jenga and ended up selling the mess for 1.4 million.
This shirt tells the world: “I don’t know much about like but I know what I art.”
