Narfcake wrote:As someone who's watched the derby for years and through an era in which the nicest thing that some Wooters could say to some artists is along the lines of "Your work looks a lot less hideous that usual this week. What's wrong?", my opinion is this:

Despite the time difference, I doubt that @SpikeAni was purposely borrowing off your derby submission. Artists come up with similar ideas from time to time; sometimes, very very similar. Other art of a buff Stay Puft exists too; does that mean that you copied someone else out there? I doubt it. It's not in your form nor is it in this form.

I'm leaning more towards this being an unintentional coincidence.

And normally I would agree with you. However, this particular scenario is different. It would be one thing if they just posted similar designs. It's another to comment on someone's work, that's doing quite well in the derby, and then create something incredibly similar afterwards to post the next morning.

spikeani wrote:Sigh again, check my reply to ILoveEwe. Not sure where imitation comes into play. Believe me I am the last person who could pull that off. But as far as similar is concerned there is nothing original about any of our designs. The Ghostbusters franchise easily come in and take both of our designs down. Just saying. I am here to do what I do best and hopefully have fun doing it. Maybe meet some other like minded people.

Well, you did see and comment on their work and then stay up all night to make an incredibly similar design.

As far as the copy written character is concerned, I'm personally not for using copy written characters at all, but I'm alone there when it comes to Woot, it seems. I've given up fighting that battle here.

It would be different if it just happened to be another Marshmallow Man, but it's not. It's using the same joke. The same color scheme. And an incredibly similar layout.

Woot used to reject for much less.

I thought that the focus of the derby was about making legit motivational tees? I know it's subjective as to what is use of humor vs. silly (as called out in prompt), but lots of these are flat-out sarcastic joke shirts -- which normally I'm all for -- that IMO doesn't meet the theme.

Maybe I'm just being all judgy because I didn't have time to design this week. Get off my lawn.

Good suggestion! I was kind of hoping it could be more generic this way for any sport/athletics/or other thing you need motivation for.

If you knew it would not print, I don't know why you entered it. It does not belong here. I would suggest taking it to some other website where offensive designing is acceptable.

I for one will not forget your insensitivity to the Woot community.

I've had the same thought. Tons of great designs but very few meet the challenge. Did I miss something?

gmv stands for

G ot
M y
V ote

(I also voted for your bouncing ball design. I don't always put a gmv when I vote for an entry. Often I do so when I like something but don't have a lot to say.

Happy designing! )
