Re: Retro Lovin

Cute, but might not print because:
- thumbnail and comp are not the same color blank
- copyrighted character. Seems very close to original, without much parody to claim fair use (if that's even a thing with nintendo).

Re: A Very Hangry Caterpillar

you did a great job on this! I had the hangry caterpillar idea a while back, I had a go at the textures but it was really tricky. I find it hard to imagine doing a better job of those textures than you did here, exceptional stuff

kg07 wrote:Thanks Fishbiscuit! It was a trial and error process, but I learned a lot working with the layers, textures and halftones trying to replicate the look and feel of the original.

I remember doing the same when doing my patriotic version, watching youtube videos on how Carle works, his process, etc. Mine was easier because I changed the colors to red white and blue. You have all the subtlety in here of the original, which is nice.

I keep coming back to this. I love the overlapping bubbles and all that you made happen with just three colors. Such a nice design.

Staff

MrBignell wrote:On that note, you can submit it directly to Woot and hope to land an F contract (Woot will run it, though it exists elsewhere so you keep the rights). In my experience they're given out less than the D contract (same-ish thing, but exclusive to Woot). Given the popularity of this in the derby, I'm sure they'd seriously consider the design.

Staff here. All derby submissions must be new art that isn't being sold, and has not been sold, on another site. If you submitted the art to another site before and it was rejected, you can submit here, since it wasn't ever sold there. That's our policy for derbies.

For regular submissions through shirt.woot.com/submit, we can accept designs that are sold elsewhere. The majority of our designs are exclusive to Woot, but there are certain contracts available for designs that exist on other sites.

I hope this clears things up.

Um. Could we get a version without the word "probably". It would go so great with my "The end is nigh." sandwich board.

I tried not to get caught up in any particular details and draw more quickly & expressively than usual. It seems to suit this prickly lump.

I know what you mean. I always try to restrain myself because my sketches will look great and then I have a tendency to get overly realistic in my editing and it doesnt always look right. You killed it with the details on this though, and I think the subject matter will appeal to a lot of people. Great job!
