I wouldn't forsee any issue with that. Other than a ball point needle, any machine that can do a zig-zag stitch will be sufficient.

Ochopika posted her alteration here, but without detaching the sleeves to resize the shoulders, going down more than one size will look odd IMHO. The kicker to all this - resizing an AA 3XL still yields a shirt with a smaller neckhole than a Honduran Anvil ML (the Nicaraguan ones are less oversized).
