I think they mean generic spice. Like flavors normally found dried in a bottle. By this logic, I would have to say garlic. I put that shit on e'rything!

Wars were fought over black pepper. Christopher Columbus sailed around the world looking for black pepper which led to the discovery of the Americas. For over a 1000 years a pound of pepper could be used to pay 1 months rent in most parts of the world. The fact that pepper is not on this list means its useless!
