Oh, wow! I want this shirt! Awesome job!

Wow, I didn't realize the octopus would be so common for this derby. O.O

Anyway I had a hard time making sure this was pointillism and not stippling. Hopefully it's okay.

I also hope it's subject is clear. The octopus head is the sun and he's toying with a planet in each tentacle. The elimination of Pluto was convenient for this since now there are eight planets.

Ha! Tell us to draw whatever we want and we all draw octopus and squid. Figures, eh? Yours is very pretty. Looks graceful, which I know is hard to do with dots.

I didn't see the octo at first, but now that I do it's very cool. Very pretty, Loop.

Very nice... but... but... You could still put Pluto out there, right? I mean... Pluto was a planet, like, forever!

That's deep, man. Real deep. Deep enough for a vote from my space-loving second inner grader (that's a compliment).

Outside of Uranus and Neptune, the planets actually look like you would expect them to look. And it's not stippling, which I appreciate greatly. This is fine work and I hope you receive a lot of support from those of us who once dreamed of being an astronaut.

I have a soft spot for cephelapods, but I don't yet own a shirt with one. When I first saw this, I thought "ooh, nebulous octopus". It took a few moments before I saw the planets. I think this is my favourite design in the derby and I very well may purchase it if it goes to print. I'm worried about the dots though... they already look fairly big on the comp, so they'll probably be bigger in print. The small shirt comp looks absolutely amazing though. It's spectacular.

Eight planets really does work out for you too, though I wish pluto was off all alone in the corner.

I considered it, but I feared Pluto would distract from the overall feel of it. I know, I know, I over-think things sometimes, lol.

Thanks, e. I worried over the size of the dots as well. I started working on this before I saw they had limited the size, so I had to add a stroke around them until the smallest were 30 pixels. I wanted to have varied sized dots, which meant there had to be some that were larger than 30px. I think it would look better if the limit had been 15px, but I'll have to live with it. Anyway, it's great to hear that this is your favorite.

I'm still confused about that. See, I dropped some dots onto a full canvas and then scaled it down to shirt comp size (actually, a bit larger than shirt comp size) and the 20px and 30px dots were TINY:



The first dot was 10 px (now only a pixel), the second is 20 and the third is 30. Comparing the dot sizes to your comp, I would guess that yours are closer to 60 or 70 px...

So what am I doing wrong? Lots of artists seem to have large dots compared to what I found...

E, you're gonna give yourself a headache, lol. I have all sorts of sizes in there, and it's possible some are indeed 60.

Besides my initial 'oh great another octopus' I actually find that I like this. I think the planets might have sold me on it.

What would you have done if Pluto was still a planet??

True enough, ma'am.

I suppose my confusion is from many of the best artists here have used "larger" dots and lamented the lack of fine points to add detail, while some of the ones that HAVE such detail are raising questions regarding adherence to the dot size restriction. For example, people are questioning radiomode's design, but his dots look big enough as far as I can tell. But since so many technically skilled artists seem to think it's a problem, I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. =\

Week after week, I am sorely disappointed in the shirt.woot community. If Gigli (2003) like Firefox or the toaster or that flowery b.s. print this week, I might have to lay off the derbies and find someplace where good art is appreciated. This very much deserves to be in the fog and is absolutely beautiful. I hope it prints Loop.

Totally agree. I have only been hanging around shirt.woot for about a month now after a long absence, but in that time I have found it to be an entirely frustrating, confounding, gut-wrenching, soul-crushing experience. It's worse now than it used to be, and imo that's saying a lot.

I can't believe this isn't in the fog. I've been trying to stay off shirt.woot for a few days to refresh and re-energize, and I come back to see yet another crud-tastic fog. Well, actually I do like Boots' and I think the toaster is cute, but I don't think I'd wear them. *sigh*
