In the original submission, I stated that the moon is collecting wishing stars. Wouldn't you like to pluck out your own good luck and wishes right out of the sky? Besides, I think this would be good for anyone who's into sky watching and loves meteor showers (yes, I know, meteors aren't stars).
And yes, as Adder said, he was eaten after the stars were collected from the skies.
