The title of this means "Become a bird", and it's taken from a song by my favorite singer/songwriter, "Rasen (Spiral)" by Chihiro Onitsuka.

watashi wa tori ni nari
zattou wo tondeyuku
mayoi wa hane ni nari

"I become a bird
and fly over the crowd

Gorgeous linework - this is really beautiful.
I've never been a huge can of halftoning, but that's purely a personal stylistic preference - I'd likely buy it regardless ;)

Halftones vs. flats is part of my uphill climb in figuring out shirt design. Some day, I will find the perfect balance.

And I really like what you've done here. Personally, I don't really like half tones, but they actually make this piece work. I also like how you're not actually drawing a bird; rather drawing a person trying to become one. Very unique to me

I love the linework, but I don't think the halftones on the wings add to the piece.

yay or nay? I tried making overlapping feather shapes so it's not just a flat swoosh of white, but I didn't care for it that way.

I prefer it with the halftones. If I had to try and say why I guess it looks more natural, though that doesn't seem like quite the expression I'd like I can't think of anything better to say it.

It's tough to say. I like the gradation and the stark line is a little jarring but I think it matches better with the rest of the comp (which is really great by the way). I would worry a bit about how the halftones would actually print since it's not a look that really turns out well on the shirt and it may clash a lot more than you think it will once it's in print.

I went ahead and submitted the halftone-less version here. We'll see which one is doing better after a while, but I get the feeling this one is going to stay ahead just because of the submission time...

This shirt supplied me with some nostalgia. Reminded me of a character from a nintendo power comic MANY years ago, named Roam. He was a knight trapped in the world of darkness and stuck in the form of a hawk ... or an eagle.

Anyway, great shirt! Thanks for the memory!

i definitely think that it needs blending, but i dont like the halftones for the same reason as mr wednesday. i think it would look best if it was a natural blend pattern like that of a birds feathers. i guess what i am trying to say is that i think it would look better with tapered lines of color creating the blend effect. i doubt i am making much sense

maybe i dont have as fine an eye as you guys do, but the halftones look ok to me. i also really love the movement in this.
