The Fine Print Just Got Finer: Changes To Derby Terms & Conditions

Before you submit to this week’s Derby,
you may want to have your English-to-Legalese dictionary handy. We’ve
made some changes to the Terms & Conditions to allow us to include
your entry in our periodic Big Do-Over Derbies, should it receive an Honorable Mention
or a nomination from our judges. You can opt out by letting us know you
don’t want your design to be considered for the Big Do-Over, and the
rights to your design will revert back to you after 60 days. (Same goes
if your design is not nominated for the Big Do-Over, of course.) Be
sure to look it over with a sharp eye and a keen mind, and email any
questions, concerns, prayers, or threats to shirt@woot.com.

Derby #42: Join the Revolution!

Thomas Jefferson said, “Every generation needs a new revolution.”
Che Guevara said, “A true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of
love.” We say, “'Join the revolution' sounds like a great theme for a t-shirt
Derby.” And we’ve got 2K Games, publishers of the new game Sid Meier’s Civilization® Revolution™, backing us up. It’s the console and handheld version of Civilization, the strategy gaming franchise that has conquered the minds of millions of obsessive fans. And it hits stores July 8th.

To
mark the occasion, 2K Games is sponsoring this week’s revolutionary
Derby. If you’re not too busy fighting off barbarians or researching
gunpowder, try your hand at designing a t-shirt with a revolutionary
theme. As we said when we announced this sponsorship last week, the spoils for the winners will be enhanced with Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution prize packs – and, of course, a little extra cash.

IMPORTANT! We are not looking for Civilization t-shirts. We just want shirts with this theme, which is inspired by and sponsored by Civilization Revolution. Your design should totally stand alone, on its own merits, not as a piece of Civ promo material. Don’t use Civilization game artwork, screenshots, logos, etc.

Now is the time for all good shirt designers to rally ‘round the Derby! Viva la revolution – and viva la Civilization Revolution!

It’s a strange world. Draw a photo-realistic werewolf battle and
you’ve committed low art, suitable for publication in the letter pages
of magazines with names like “Fresh Blood” and “Blood Robot” and
“Bloody Fortnight” and “Blood Blood Blood Blood Blood”. Draw it in a
loose, abstract manner and they’ll call it Guernica.

Frank
Zappa once said that “you can’t always write a chord ugly enough to say
what you want to say, so you have to rely on a giraffe filled with
whipped cream”. It sometimes takes a detour to properly see the path
you are on, even if you chose to never go back to it. But being the
outsider is what the monster is all about, right? Except for that fella
at the bottom who looks like a bunny rabbit. He gets all the phone
numbers he wants.

This shirt was designed by: Jon Burgerman,
who is a big name in the world of shirts! Not big in the “Paul Bunyan”
way, but big in the “designed the Summer collection for Rip Curl” kind of way. He’s also made a very cute hoodie for Kid Robot and has been one of their featured Dunny
artists. He’s like the Damien Hirst of shirts! Except his shirts don’t
involve formaldehyde. Strictly casualdehyde with Jon. Did we mention
he’s had his first monograph published?

Wear this shirt:
to make a deep, passionate statement regarding the socio-political
climate at the back table of Starbucks. Even Mao needed a plotting
corner.

Don’t wear this shirt: as a skirt
or kilt. It would be very daring but the required modifications would
completely change the scope of the piece. Like that time Andy
Goldsworthy lost at Jenga and ended up selling the mess for 1.4 million.

This shirt tells the world: “I don’t know much about like but I know what I art.”

We call this color: Canneberge

Holy $#@%&! What a week! An unprecedented five new entries make the cut this week, led by Fat Unicorn at #2, with Finding Technicolor and Army in my Pocket not far behind. Of course, that means that five of our veterans lost this brawl and will be deleted at midnight tonight. In a shocking reversal, longtime titan Cool Breeze is among the Casualties, while Zombie Season's narrow survival ensures that it will keep the Reckoning longevity record, currently at 34 weeks and counting. Our best incoming class ever...the fall of one of our longest-running shirts...remember this nail-biting Reckoning race in style by giving us a bunch of your money for some of our shirts. You've got 12 hours to spend with the Casualties before we bury them.

I Am The Internet

Also,
I am Joe’s tumor, the walrus, the fly, a bunny, legend, a fugitive from
a chain gang, the blood and the life, the one who will dance on the
floor in the round, and the very model of a modern major-general.

This shirt was designed by: Will Bryant,
an illustrator, DJ, and Mississippi State student who, at the tender
age of 22, is blissfully unaware of true heartbreak, of terrifying
despair and crushing defeat, of the profane void at the heart of every
trivial, agonizing moment. Also, he has an Etsy store.

Wear this shirt: if you’re the Internet, or you want people to think you are.

Don’t wear this shirt:
as a Halloween costume. It’s a great idea, but we’ll be selling a lot
of shirts between now and October 31, and we want you to keep buying.

This shirt tells the world: “Access to me costs at least $19.95 a month, and may be unavailable when you need it most.”

We call this color: Information Asphalt.

Placement: Centered

Printed Size:
3X – M: 8” x 16.89”
S-WS: 6” x 12.66”

Pantone Color(s): – 226 C – 285 C – 2602 C – 368 C – 7448 C

Please check American Apparel's sizing chart for men or for women before you order. The Woot Tee, constructed by American Apparel, follows their classic closer-fitting style. If you prefer a baggier look, order a larger size. If there is not a larger size, consider starting a belly-hanging-out trend.
