Re: Inspired by Nina Simone's Feeling Good

Inspired by the following lyrics:

Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Reeds driftin on by you know how I feel

...

Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom in the tree you know how I feel

...

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, dont you know
Butterflies all havin fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
....
Stars when you shine you know how I feel

...

I would love to buy a painting from you, but, for lack of cash, Ill have to stick with a t-shirt.

great abstract! was this inspired by a painting you did? (as well as the song)

Hi Dagith- Thanks! This is definitely done like one of my paintings, but I tried to make it more tshirt friendly. I've never done a painting for Nina Simone's song...even though it is one of my favorite songs! I may end up doing a painting inspired by my tshirt design though as I really enjoyed making this one.

This design was done last night as a brand new sketch. But, I tried to do it in the style of one of my art deco cubist paintings. I don't know if I works as a tshirt design, but I am very happy with how it turned out and I really tried to incorporate the entire song into the single design.

Thanks for leaving a comment!

It's gorgeous kls. You have my vote. It would look great as a painting or as wearable art as I love the design, placement and colors you used. Nina Simone is very awesome as well and a favorite of mine. Very creative and inspired.

Thanks Heartluce - My husband saw the sketches that I was working on and he said "nice, but probably too feminine." I chose the olive shirt and purposely held back on the added adornments and swirlies in order to make the design a little less gender-specific. I want the design to reflect my art style, but I also want to try to make it consumer friendly as a tshirt. It's really a learning experience which I have yet to master.

I love that Nina Simone song and I hope the design does justice to the lyrics.

Yes, I can totally see what you mean about it being more gender neutral. I dig it a lot. Also, to me, this does make a great t-shirt design so kudos. Imho, the shirt definitely does justice to the lyrics and feeling of the song.

Oh! You should really listen to the song. One of my favorites! It's a great old Jazz song. I remember it being in the US film version of La Femme Nikita...but I can't recall the title of that movie. I did a quick search on Youtube and saw this preview for Six Feet Under using Nina Simone's version of Feeling Good. Have a listen. It's a great song!

Hopefully you can understand the imagery in the design as well. (Other Nina Simone songs to listen to: Sugar in my Bowl,Here Comes the Sun, I Put a Spell on You, among others)

Thanks Peppers!

Thanks Narkus! Doesn't look like it's going to get the votes this time around. Another great derby with a lot of great entries. But, looks like the fog shook up a little overnight...so maybe there's a little glimmer of hope that this one can still have a chance.

Thanks again!

I knew I could count on you for a film title! Point of No Return was TERRIBLE when compared to the original Femme Nikita. But, I loved that the American film used songs from Nina Simone.

Thanks Jim!

Thanks Amcatanzaro - I appreciate it! This one didn't click with the voters this week, but I'll try to do something with the design after the 60 day hold is up. If you send me a private message (PM), I'll let you know what happens with the design.

Thanks again!

If you love this song like I do, you should check out Wax Tailor's "How I feel" which uses primarily this song.
