thanks for these kind words, folks. It makes me that much sadder that I was unsuccessful (after more tries than I care to mention) at creating a .jpg image that wasn't artifacted so heavily.

Good job! GMV. Yeah, for some reason, the red comps never work quite right. I've not been able to solve it either.

Maybe try using a red t-shirt photo background - that way there's constant, although minor, variations in color and the jpg compression algorithm has to track all the pixels, rather than just blocks of the same color and "averaging" the edges.
