Re: 1982: Lawnchair Larry

Lawrence Richard Walters flies 16,000 feet into the air July 2, 1982, setting off a chain of events that lead to the song "death of a minor TV celebrity". This is his final flight into the abyss as he turns off the TV... artsy fartsy no?

See it close up here.

I've only ever swooned over one guy's facial hair. We dated for a little while, it didn't work out and we're great friends now. I still swoon over it. But normally I don't like facial hair.

love the TV addition! It's still missing the beer, though. ;)

I'm happy to vote for 2 Larrys!

& the Gaggle of Girls; so many shirts, so little space in the dresser!

I was thinking about it, having a beer on a single balloon in the bottom right but I feared it being rejected by the rejectamatron 2000.

Thanks mia3mom

Both designs are missing the B.B. gun for shooting the balloons.

Is that how Lawnchair Larry did it? I know on mythbusters they used a bb gun, but I couldn't find anything on how Larry got down.

The only reference I found was in the imitators section on Wikipedia...

Kent Couch, a 47-year-old gas station owner from Bend, Oregon, ... Like Walters, Couch also had a BB gun on hand to shoot the balloons in order to initiate descent on his first attempt. ...

The entire read... Lawnchair Larry @ Wikipedia.

There's enough anti-gun sentiment floating around, I figured it diminished marketability.

Meh.

Shaving.

That is a good point, don't wanna risk rejectionation by including a gun, better to sensor it with a dismembered rabbits head.

He did have a 'pellet gun' and he also brought beer up with him. The Darwin Awards has a special honorary mention for Larry - good story and a couple of pics

A gun and a beer, somehow I already knew he'd bring some beer. I mean, his name is "Lawnchair Larry". It all makes sense now.
