Re: Doppler Blueshift

Blueshift refers to a shortening of a transmitted signal's wavelength, and/or an increase in its frequency. The name comes from the fact that the shorter-wavelength end of the optical spectrum is the blue (or violet) end, hence, when visible light is compacted in wavelength, it is "shifted towards the blue", or "blue-shifted". Since the longer-wavelength end of the visible electromagnetic spectrum is red, the opposite effect, of a lengthening of a signal's wavelength, is referred to as redshifting.

From Wikipedia article on blueshifting.

Any shirt that mentions the doppler blue shift should help you do well with the ladies in the physics lab. GMV

I like it too. I'd vote for it if it were in a better font....oh what if the letters were made in some way to have the radar refresh in them...

Thanks for the input. I decided on this font because I wanted to keep it relatively simple. I felt like adding images in the text would be gimmicky with this message. But I'll admit I didn't think of the radar refresh.

Please vote anyway? ^_~

LOVE the idea, not a fan of the font choice - especially for a tech subject. gmv anyway, because all science shirs gmv.

Yeah, the font doesn't go with this concept. It is very clever though. You'd get my vote with a better font choice. I don't think you should add anything representative, just stick with simple text. The problem is this text gives a feeling of old parchment or something, which doesn't make sense with a physics reference.

I love this shirt and can't wait to wear it! I had a hearty chuckle. Also, I actually really like the font chosen for the shirt--I agree, its simple.

What about DaVinci? He didn't have tech fonts! ^_~ For that matter, neither did Newton.

I can see what you mean but something about this font worked for me. Maybe next time I'll take a poll before the derby starts.

Well I hope you get the chance to buy it. At first I was embarrassed by this shirt but now I'm kind of proud that I created something so geeky. That it's doing as well as it is is icing on the cake. Now if only it could make the fog...

Thanks! Now let's just hope it stays there. At this rate, though, it'll be near-miss history. Still it's fun to be fogged. ^_^

Contrary to popular belief, I know the difference between redshift and blueshift.

I think this hits the optimal nerdiness-geekiness ratio. Oh, and GMV... duh!

You again! So do I get to play with that tablet sometime? My stepmom probably won't get to getting me one for a year or so. >_<;

I think he meant that putting it on a blue shirt would make it seem like the reader is traveling fast, but that's already been done.

Oh. Well I suppose that could work too. I want a red shirt so I used red, hehe. Also, I don't think it would have the same effect if the shirt was blue; no thought towards doppler effect would be necessary.

If the shirt was blue, you could change the word to 'red' and that the reader is moving away too quickly. Girls running away is relevant. Great idea!

i bet she wrote the doppler shift theory, and since i can't prove she didn't at least help with the idea, it should be reinstated.
