this uses animal silouettes(I can't spell this word) and therefore should be hated for not being art.

This is so beautiful. The line strokes really seem to embody the hazy heat of the plain. I saw the prototype (or whatever it'd be called :P) and I have to say that I'm really satisfied with what you did with it. Brilliant work, and great results!

Kudos~

beautiful work! Very artistic. I love the way you captured the light. I probably would not where it just because it is yellow(not a huge yellow fan). but you have my vote, for an amazing design.

You guys are so kind. I'm so appreciative of your support and your observations. I know yellow can be an odd color, but I'm glad it's still getting your votes.

I'm not sure if I agree that this is better than "Chasing Windmills." That was very well done. Plus, I have to give Toe credit because that piece inspired me greatly.

Johnnyfred, to answer your question, I used my Wacom tablet and Photoshop. I just took turns with various sizes of the pencil tool.

Mitohapa, I hope the Ghost Town Cactus Trio makes it up here with me. I love the colors and the flow of that design.

cHalcyon wrote:In the small image this shirt looks amazing so it gmv. But when I saw the close up version I took it back. Excellent idea and attempt, but in my opinion it needs some refining. Now that I see you used a wacom tablet I know why it looks the way it does. The lines are nice, but they're too jittery. I can actually see your hand shaking as you drew them. You should go back and smooth things out a bit and then you'd have a beautiful design.

Um... Nice try, but you can't vote.

Aquino, Imcowman, and anyone else who mentioned liking this as a wall hanging: First of all, thank you for your compliment!! I would love to either sell this as a print or even hand paint it. If this is printed as a shirt though, I'm not sure when I will get the rights of the artwork back to sell it as such. I don't really know how all that works... I will look into it.

Derby winners never get the rights to the artwork back, IIRC.

i may be mistaken so you should check with a copyright lawyer but, if you do a painting by hand of this design it's considered a derivative work and therefore no longer this actual design, which they (woot) do have the reproduction rights to.

Some sections from the ToC that may answer the question:

7. Copyright Ownership. Artist retains copyright ownership of the Artwork submitted to Woot. Woot may, at Woot’s discretion and expense, register the Artwork with the U.S. Copyright Office in the Artist’s name. Woot may record the license granted to it in this Agreement, and Artist agrees to assist Woot as necessary with such recordation, including by executing any documents related to the recordation that Woot may reasonably request.

8. Grant Of Rights. Artist grants Woot the exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, world-wide, right and license to use, reproduce, print, publish, publicly display, transmit, market, sell, distribute, and sublicense the Artwork in all forms and media now known or hereafter developed. Woot may make or authorize non-substantive changes to the Artwork to prepare it for production use.

9. Non-competition. Artist shall not use the Artwork in any manner with the sole exception that Artist may display or incorporate the Artwork in a personal portfolio or collection for promotional purposes related to Artist’s work

However, whoever wants it on their wall could buy a shirt, cut it up, attach it to a canvas or frame it, and hang it up!

if my understanding of "legalese" is correct the term "the Artwork" specifies this, and only this, version of the design, not a painted version of it. since the painting would be significantly different from the original.

Definitely look into that... I know woot keeps the rignts indefinitely for shirt sales, but have never heard anything concrete about their stance on other methods (such as prints)

ETA: noticed that later a number of people answered much better than my postulation. Still, best to ask anyway.

Though they DO make "shirt frames" from what I hear
