Re: Late Afternoon

I am really bummed about my design. I commented on this during the Pointillism Derby, but to recap: as it turns out, there appears to be an artifact in CorelDraw X4 in the way that it shows small blobs. If you look here, you will see some explanation by Bluchez a couple of posts down. What I think it amounts to is that there is some transparency built in to the way objects are displayed, and that appears to be enhanced when the objects are small, as in individual pointillism blobs. Accordingly, it seems that my shirt comp, and my detail image, are deceptively dim. When I take the objects that are the design, and duplicate them directly on top of each other 3 or 4 times, the image becomes much brighter, and I believe it better reflects what the ink will look like on the shirt.

Accordingly, I have made a copy of the shirt comp here in which the design is multiply copied onto itself, which I think looks more like how it would look on the shirt. Of course, the only way to know is for you all to vote it into at least 3rd place, so that we can see it printed. ;^)

Anyway, I am really bummed that the view which probably shows how the shirt will look is not up on top of this thread, where everyone will see it, but down here at the bottom, where most will never see it.

I don't see how I could have done anything differently on this issue, but it is an alert to others that this issue may be a problem for you if you use Corel Draw X4. I will from now layer multiple copies of my design on the background before making my submission images.

and if you like it better the way that it probably would print, then vote! vote like part of the Shirt Soviet!

Thanks for bothering to read this...now you can go back to voting for the designs in the fog. ;^)

Here's a link to a better resolution version.

To be honest I think I like it better dimmer. Since it's titled "Late Afternoon" to me that connotes a slightly darker lighting as opposed to the bright light of around noon. But either way I think it's great. GMV.

Re: Late Afternoon

This was a favorite of mine when I saw it last. Voted again. Good luck! I'd love to own this.

Very serene. I like both versions.

hmmm..maybe I do like the dimmer version a bit better. The brighter version shows how dusk can make landscape colors surreal, but the subdued one is easier on the eyes and more peaceful.

Re: Late Afternoon

I do like both versions and I have voted for it (again). However, looking at it again I wish woot had some kind of light pink/orangey yellow (muted) shade. I think this comp would look beautiful on a background of that colour.

I have to agree with you, I do think the dimmer version is a bit better. I want to be clear, though, there is only one version. I'm reasonably certain that the printed design, if there ever is one, will actually look like the brighter view (which I also like a lot!)- I think there is an artifact in the way that Corel Draw saves jpgs or pngs to make them a little bit transparent, when your original has a lot of small objects.

and thanks for the votes, everyone. This design is quietly climbing, far above where I ever thought it could go. :^)
