I really like the design, but I'm not sure I'm really seeing/feeling the pun here.

The pun fails since this is a pic, not a guitar...

Re: air guitar

I do like the concept in general, but a quick read of the shirt makes me think of a balloon or an alien face before I get "guitar". Ditching the pick shape and making the edges of the guitar part a little stronger would make it read better.

*edit, this was in response to a rude poster. Seems more harsh without the deleted quote.

The pick does not make a guitar, it's a pick. If it was picking the strings then it would fit, but it does not. I understand the strings and the neck, but that still does not really say "guitar" to me. Strings & neck alone don't really make a guitar either, it's not very clear. Air is also not an easy thing to portray in an image easily and I don't clearly see the connection of the two. If it was not labeled "Air Guitar" then you would be hard pressed to see the pun that if you were John Do walking on the street. It would just look like a nice calming shirt. I like the peaceful feeling of the design, but I just don't think it fits as a pun.

Re: air guitar

The negative space between the trees is supposed to make a guitar, right?

It's amazing the lengths people will go to look for something that isn't there. This isn't a guitar...this is a power line in the woods. As an air guitar pun, this fails big time.

Now that I think about it, what about the idea of replacing the pick shape into a shape of a guitar for a resub? That would give it a much better feeling of being a guitar and that would make the power lines and pole as the strings and neck of the guitar a lot better. I could see air guitar in that a little bit more, but again it's hard to portray air.

I agree. The pun would be much more clear if the design was guitar-shaped, with the power lines as the strings.

The overall shape of the illustration is a pick, but there is a guitar in there. You have to look closely, but the "air" above the ground and between the trees forms a guitar. It is very subtle, and would be difficult to... uh... "pick out".

A little guitar humor there. Very little.

I can kinda see what you are saying. I'd say it looks more like a lute though. The guitar shape would need to stand out some more for it to work, beacuse again unless somebody said "this is an air guitar" you'd be hard pressed for somebody to find the pun since the pick shape is definitely more prominent and eye catching. I'd love to see this one resubmitted as I do like the overall look and feel of it.

But it is a guitar pic!! I love it, but did you try an actual guitar first? I would enjoy the image of a classical more than the pic I feel...

Just my humble opinion!

Re: air guitar

thanks for the votes/comments/suggestions...

the negative space (air) between the trees is what is forming the guitar... with help from the pole. The overall shape (the pick) is just a secondary pun (pick-ture of an air guitar). It's supposed to be subtle. And involve a little imagination.

Thanks to those who like it!!

There is an air guitar, just look at the blue part, it is rounded at the bottom, the strings are the telephone lines and the middle of the pole has foliage that maks the hole in the middle of the guitar.

All praise be to science.

Too bad woot deleted my comments or people would know this already, but I'm not surprised very few have an eye for subtlety. They're too concerned with negativity....

I completely agree with ski. If you shaped it like a guitar you lose most of what is good about the shirt. Shaped like a guitar people who see it will think, "hey look, you have a guitar on your shirt." Here though, the pick shaped draws you in to the design and gives you a hint as to what you should be looking for. It also gives the design a much more airy look which would be lost in a guitar shaped design.

On top of that, just because most people need to be beat over the skull with puns doesn't mean that's the best way to deliver them visually, vocally or otherwise. This shirt has payoff most others lack.

So I really like the idea for this design and the subtlety works well. However I do think that if you extend the light blue up from the body of the guitar to fill in a part of the neck it would greatly improve the design. I like what you did with the telephone poles and how it makes the strings and frets. Unfortunately I think the design of the guitar is lost because the neck of the guitar is lost. The contrast between the two blues breaks up the flow for the eye and you are left with just a pear shape bottom. The neck of the guitar is as much apart of the design of a guitar as the bottom. I think that you could still achieve the look you are going for and other users would then see the "air guitar". Great Pun! I hope the votes increase.

Exceptional artwork, well thought out, and wonderfully subtle. Kudos. If this doesn't go to print I'd love to buy several for a few friends of mine. Please email me at martinee@onid.orst.edu if you do decide to print it on your own.

Can't believe I'm the first one to mention this. Looking at the shirt comp, I don't think I can wear this shirt bcz the trees are right where... umm, errr... I just don't think it would sit right on me.

This is awesome. Really disappointed the woot crowd needs to be bashed over the head with an idea to get it into the fog. Real Shame. If you manage to get this printed elsewhere I'd also absolutely love to get a copy.

The colors and the idea are phenomenal. I really enjoy subtleties and things that make you think so it's a perfect fit. An excellent representation of an air guitar in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!

Fully agree that this is one of the most impressive entries this derby. It doesn't scream pun, it's beautiful, and it can be worn as a perfect artistic shirt without going for a cheap laugh.

Most people will just see the scene and like it. A lot of them will see the guitar pick, and recognize that. And a few will see the full guitar and realize just how cool a design it is.

If this gets printed ANYWHERE, I'll be happy to buy a few. Please, let me know if it does (email amusix@aol.com).

Resubmitted with the guitar more clear. Where did I say resubmit it as a Lute? Use your brain instead of sending me a pm insulting me because you can't comprehend the simple things.
