Re: ...How about joint custody?
So... the question remains.
Who porked who for this mutation to occur?
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Awesome! Love the concept, and the way the comp fades into the shirt. Hope it prints and looks as good in RL!. GMV!
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Awesome!
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I predict... another win by Mr. Spens and another purchase by me. :p
Re: ...How about joint custody?
LOL...very clever. GMV
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Awesome job, Patrick! I love this so much. It seems we both had platypusses on the brain. This is just amazing, I am definately in! +1

obviously Mr. Beaver porked Mrs. Duck the secret lies in the egg.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
It's a great illo, but it immediately reminded me of this entry:

Who cares, it's a completely different design. And I LOVE it - and it's even on green! Hope it sells!

Completely different style of illustration, and a different 'message' of sorts. I think Patrick's entry is safe, esp since it looks like the other one didn't print. Platypusses, aahhh, nature's endless joke!

Re: ...How about joint custody?
It's cute, but I think the distressing is unnecessary.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Love the colors and the illustration!
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I love the artwork, but I'm curious what the point of the "distressed look" is? I think it detracts from the shirt. That's my only nitpick though!

I would imagine it's because the stork dropped a baby off and the two families are trying to figure out who's it is. Seems like a rather natural reaction given the situation. And it makes me read into it that the stork is a pretty relaxed dude that's doing his job rather casually. Just shows up probably singing to himself and just takes off without any explanation. That in itself is rather amusing.

At first, I thought it was rain.
CrescentDebris wrote:Great illustration! While others have pointed out that the idea of the platypus may not be entirely original, I think this execution is and its really well done. Probably my favorite up there.

Hahaha, this made me laugh... I hope you were kidding and knew he was really talking about the distressing on the design to make it look worn.
This is awsome
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I actually like the distressing on this. By far my favorite of the platypus entries.
xtinaftw wrote:Hahaha, this made me laugh... I hope you were kidding and knew he was really talking about the distressing on the design to make it look worn.
I won't pretend that I did... Hahaha, that's hilarious. Do I get a Quality Post for that... or rather, lose one?
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I really love this design.
I do see obvious similarities to the two designs that have been referenced here; however the simple fact exists that over time many people have mentioned, written, thought about how ridiculous the platypus looks. The conclusion that a love affair between a duck and a beaver must have occurred at some point (regardless of the biological impossibility of this) to bring about this ridiculous creature is not a unique mental bound.
I feel that when an idea is so obvious an absurdity, many people will make it.
So, this is a great design, and has my vote. I hope to be wearing it soon!

Although I will give you that the styles are really different, the 'message' is very similar-if not the same thing.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I'm probably going to buy two of these guys when it wins! I just can't stop looking at the little baby's face...man so cute. I just love this.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
The platypus just screams "psyduck" to me.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
When wife-swapping goes horribly wrong.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
nice
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Ahhh... I hate being a poor college student.
Too bad they really aren't that cute in real life. Great job!
Squarehard wrote:Too bad they really aren't that cute in real life. Great job!
Hahaha, I have to say I actually agree. I was sort of dumb and didn't look up reference for platies until after I started mine. They are really not that adorable IRL....very strange guys for sure. Also, I think it's either their bite or their claws that are venemous.
I much prefer the Patrickspens version to the real one. -snuggle-
Re: ...How about joint custody?
great lookin baby btw...
congrats
Acorns wrote:The platypus just screams "psyduck" to me.
I hafta agree. Don't know if it's necessarily a problem, tho? The Psyducky platypus DOES look like what those parentals would get from Lindsay Bluth's "Mommy, What Will I Look Like?" biz.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
lol :D too awesome
Acorns wrote:The platypus just screams "psyduck" to me.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Winner winner, chicken dinner.
I must have this shirt.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I'm loving the nearly spherical adorableness of that platypus baby. I seriously want a plush version of that! Great job!

I'm pretty sure they have venomous spurs on their back feet. Such funny dopey looking critters, but watch out!=)
Re: ...How about joint custody?
DING DING DING DING DING!!! Tell him what he's won Bob!!!
The stork just leaving the platypus there for the two families to figure out adds a new twist. Definitely original!! GMV
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I love the whole look of this one. It's very well illustrated and cute without being cheesy. Love this one.
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Cute! I really like how you played on the fact that its such a weird child-of-two-worlds-citizen-of-none animal.

Don't know if anyone has already replied to this but, platypus also lay eggs. They're the only mammals that do so..
AGiftToTearApart wrote:Don't know if anyone has already replied to this but, platypus also lay eggs. They're the only mammals that do so..
That was the point, I think.
Platypus aren't the only mammals that lay eggs; echidnas ("spiny anteaters") are also oviparous.
AGiftToTearApart wrote:Don't know if anyone has already replied to this but, platypus also lay eggs. They're the only mammals that do so..
yeah but beavers don't, so mrs. beaver couldn't have laid the egg, so i don't know what you were trying to say.
Oh the implications...
Re: ...How about joint custody?
(Check my username)
I'm buying it if it wins... maybe twice?
Re: ...How about joint custody?
I have a weakness for cute baby animals & the baby platypus has stolen my heart. Great work.

GOSUUUUUUU .. i never comment but yea.. this one couldnt keep me quiet
Re: ...How about joint custody?
CUTE! I love the stork detail ;)
Acorns wrote:The platypus just screams "psyduck" to me.
I'd have to agree lol
Re: ...How about joint custody?
love it!!!
Re: ...How about joint custody?
Cute design, and well executed. The broken texture really relates to the age of the question at hand. GMV.
should have had some web foot detail
